Cavaliers' Darius Garland: Goes through scrimmage Tuesday
Garland (toe) participated in a scrimmage with contact Tuesday, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.
Garland is still on the mend after undergoing toe surgery in June. Although the Cavaliers have been encouraged by Garland's recent progress, head coach Kenny Atkinson cautioned that his return is not imminent. "It's not linear, usually, the return to performance, and we're hoping it will be and he'll progress," Atkinson said. "But I side on the side of being conservative and making sure. This is a good step today. A small step but a good step." The Cavaliers are likely to provide another update on Garland's timetable in the near future, but for now, fantasy managers can assume that he will miss a handful of games to open the regular season.

Merrill made his preseason debut, sliding straight into the starting lineup. With both Darius Garland (toe) and Max Strus (foot) sidelined to begin the season, Merrill will likely be tasked with more responsibility on the offensive end of the floor. Look for him to play a meaningful role off the bench, at least until Garland and Strus are cleared to return.

Mobley finished with eight points (3-13 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals in 33 minutes during Tuesday's preseason win over the Pistons.
Despite the modest offensive production, there were a lot of positives when it came to Mobley's performance, the first of which was the fact that he played 33 minutes in what was a meaningless game. The defensive contributions are always going to be there, while his assist numbers are certainly an interesting wrinkle. Coming of what could be considered a breakout season, Mobley is someone fantasy managers will have to target in the second round of just about every draft.

Cavaliers' Lonzo Ball: Dishes out nine assists in win
Ball (rest) posted nine points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), nine assists, four rebounds and three blocks across 20 minutes in Tuesday's 118-100 preseason win over Detroit.
Ball returned to action after sitting out Sunday's loss to the Celtics due to rest purposes. The 27-year-old guard led all players in assists and tied the game-high mark in blocks Tuesday. Ball is expected to be limited to 20 minutes per contest to begin the regular season and won't appear in both games of back-to-back sets.

Hunter won't return to Tuesday's preseason game against the Pistons due to a right knee contusion, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Hunter sustained the injury in the second quarter and didn't return for the second half. He'll finish with 14 points (3-6 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 6-7 FT), two assists, one rebound and one steal across 14 minutes. The 27-year-old forward is being held out as a precautionary measure, according to Fedor. Still, his status will be worth monitoring ahead of the team's regular-season opener against the Knicks on Oct. 22.
