Top Islanders News

  • Islanders' Adam Pelech: Nabs first helper

Pelech posted an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Pelech helped out on a Kyle Palmieri equalizer in the third period. This was Pelech's first point through five games. The 31-year-old blueliner will be leaned on for shutdown minutes this season, perhaps even more so with a couple of capable offensive defensemen in Matthew Schaefer and Tony DeAngelo on the roster. Pelech has racked up three blocked shots, seven shots on net and a plus-4 rating to begin the campaign.

  • Islanders' Matthew Schaefer: Sets record with helper

Schaefer notched an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Schaefer is the youngest player in NHL history to start his career with a five-game point streak, per Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News. In his first five games, Schaefer has accumulated a goal, four assists, 15 shots on net, four blocked shots, two hits and a minus-1 rating. The 18-year-old continues to impress, and he's bordering on must-have status in fantasy.

  • Islanders' Jonathan Drouin: Assist streak at three games

Drouin registered an assist, two shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Drouin has a helper in each of his three outings since returning from a one-game suspension for cross-checking in the season-opener versus the Penguins. He's gotten on the scoresheet in all four games this season, with one goal and three assists. He's added seven shots on net, 15 PIM and a plus-5 rating. Drouin adds next to nothing in the physical categories, but he's clearly finding a groove in the Islanders' top six.

  • Islanders' Emil Heineman: On three-game point streak

Heineman scored a goal on two shots, doled out seven hits and added two PIM in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Heineman is now on a three-game point streak, with his two goals and one assist in that span accounting for all of his offense on the year. The 23-year-old has thrived in a middle-six role for the Islanders since coming over from the Canadiens in an offseason trade. Heineman has added 21 hits, eight shots on net, a plus-3 rating and four PIM through five contests. That kind of production could make him an option in deeper fantasy formats, particularly if his offense remains fairly steady.

  • Islanders' Kyle Palmieri: Nets goal Saturday

Palmieri scored a goal on two shots and added two hits in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Palmieri's tally tied the game at 4-4 in the third period. It was his first goal since the season opener, giving the veteran winger two tallies and four points through five contests. He's added 17 shots on net, six hits and a minus-2 rating. Palmieri's 18:59 of ice time Saturday was his lowest mark of the season, so he is poised to continue playing a large role in all situations.

  • Islanders' Bo Horvat: Nets another goal

Horvat scored a goal on two shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

Horvat followed up his hat trick from Thursday with a game-tying tally in Saturday's contest. He evened the score at 2-2 in the second period, a frame which saw both teams bend the twine three times. Horvat has six points, 25 shots on net, four hits, two blocked shots and a plus-5 rating across five appearances. He's been separated from Mathew Barzal to begin 2025-26, but it's working out just fine for Horvat's offense.

  • Islanders' Anders Lee: Plays hero in three-point effort

Le scored two goals, one the game-winner, and added an assist in Saturday's 5-4 victory over the Senators.

With just over a minute left in regulation, the Islanders' captain won a battle for the puck with Jordan Spence in the offensive zone, spun around and tucked it home behind Linus Ullmark to break a 4-4 tie. The three-point performance marked the first points of the season for Lee, who got held off the scoresheet through New York's first four games. The 35-year-old is closing in on a big milestone -- he needs nine more goals to reach 300 for his career.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Hangs on for first win of season

Sorokin turned aside 29 shots in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Senators.

The 30-year-old netminder got beaten four times in the first two periods, but Sorokin slammed the door shut on Ottawa over the final 20 minutes to give the Islanders a chance to mount a comeback. Sorokin has given up exactly four goals in four straight starts to begin the season. However, Saturday marked the first time he got enough offensive support to get into the win column. He has a 1-3-0 record, 4.13 GAA and .861 save percentage.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Not playing Saturday

Romanov (upper body) has been ruled out of Saturday's tilt in Ottawa, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.

Romanov will miss his first game of the season. He has yet to pick up a point in four games this season, but has 15 hits and 12 blocked shots. Adam Boqvist will draw into the lineup to replace Romanov.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Game-time decision Saturday

Romanov (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision versus Ottawa on Saturday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Romanov missed Friday's practice, and head coach Patrick Roy said that the team will see how the defenseman is feeling before deciding on his status. If Romanov is unable to play, look for Adam Boqvist to enter the lineup.

  • Islanders' Ryan Pulock: Gets on scoresheet with helper

Pulock logged a shorthanded assist and went plus-3 in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.

Pulock will have no obvious path to power-play time this year, as Matthew Schaefer and Tony DeAngelo are handling those minutes. That will leave Pulock to handle shorthanded duties and shutdown minutes at even strength, which is well within his skill set. Through four games, he's earned an assist, two shots on net, three hits, five blocked shots and a plus-2 rating.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Pots first goal of season

Barzal scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.

Barzal broke the scoreless tie late in the first period with a spectacular solo effort. The 28-year-old stole the puck in the neutral zone and beat Stuart Skinner on a breakaway with an impressive individual move. It was Barzal's first goal of the season, and he'd later add a power-play assist on one of Bo Horvat's three goals. Barzal has one goal, two assists, 11 shots and four PIM through four contests this season.

  • Islanders' Bo Horvat: Scores hat trick Thursday

Horvat had a hat trick, including one goal with the man advantage, in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.

Horvat didn't score a goal in any of the Islanders' first three games of the season, but he ended that skid with a dominant performance. The 30-year-old opened his tally with a shorthanded goal late in the second period, and he'd later add a power-play marker and an empty-netter to round out the scoring. Horvat hasn't cracked the scoresheet in two of the Islanders' four games so far, but when he's done it, he's made his presence felt. Through four contests, the center has five points already -- with three of them coming on the power play.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Earns win in Isles debut

Rittich stopped 31 of 33 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.

Rittich was making his first start of the season, and while the Oilers were a difficult matchup on paper, the 33-year-old veteran had a solid performance to secure the win in his Islanders debut. However, Rittich is expected to serve as the No. 2 goaltender behind Ilya Sorokin, so Rittich's not likely to be a regular between the pipes for the Isles, leaving his fantasy upside tied to a matchup-based scenario.

  • Islanders' David Rittich: Set to start Thursday

Rittich is expected to start at home against Edmonton on Thursday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday.

It will be Rittich's first start of the season, and his first as a member of the Islanders. He had a 16-14-2 record, 2.84 GAA and .886 save percentage in 34 regular-season appearances with the Kings last year. Rittich is serving as the Islanders' No. 2 goaltender, and he's unlikely to get many starts behind Ilya Sorokin.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Set for Saturday's start

Sorokin will tend the twine on the road against the Senators on Saturday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.

It will be David Rittich getting the nod for Thursday's home clash with Edmonton before Sorokin makes his fourth appearance of the year for the Isles. The 30-year-old Sorokin remains winless through this season, going 0-3-0 with a 4.19 GAA and .854 save percentage. If Sorokin continues to struggle, it's possible that Rittich gets more opportunities between the pipes.
