Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Out at least one week
The Kings announced Saturday that a recent MRI on Sabonis' right hamstring confirmed that the center sustained a Grade 1 strain during Wednesday's 109-91 preseason loss to the Clippers, Brenden Nunes of KHTK Sactown Sports 1140 reports. Sabonis is scheduled to be re-evaluated in one week.
While Sabonis' diagnosis doesn't represent a worst-case scenario, the fact that he won't be re-evaluated until next weekend means that he can be ruled out for at least the first two games of the regular season. With Sabonis sidelined, the Kings will likely turn to Drew Eubanks, Dario Saric and Maxime Raynaud to cover minutes at center in the short term.

Kings' Drew Eubanks: Adds 10 in preseason finale
Eubanks put up 10 points (3-4 FG, 4-6 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal over 20 minutes in Friday's 117-117 preseason victory over the Lakers.
Eubanks is in competition with Dario Saric for minutes behind Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) as the backup big man. While Eubanks started, it is worth noting that Saric played five more minutes.

Kings' Isaac Jones: Scores double digits in start
Jones tallied 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-3 FT), three rebounds and two assists over 23 minutes in Friday's 117-116 preseason win over the Lakers.
The second-year forward made the most of his lone preseason start, which included splitting a pair of clutch free throws late in the fourth quarter to seal the game. Jones isn't projected to make Sacramento's rotation headed into the regular season, but starting in the team's last preseason game is an encouraging sign that he may make the final roster.

Kings' Nique Clifford: Logs team-high 33 minutes in win
Clifford posted 13 points (5-12 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven assists, five rebounds and a steal over 33 minutes in Friday's 117-116 preseason win over the Lakers.
Clifford leading the team in minutes was an encouraging sign that he will have a role with the Kings to begin the season, especially with Keegan Murray (thumb) out until at least the middle of November. While Clifford started the preseason finale in place of DeMar DeRozan (groin), Clifford will likely be relegated to a prominent role within the second unit in the team's regular-season opener Wednesday against the Suns.

Kings' Zach LaVine: Posts 15 points in preseason finale
LaVine generated 15 points (4-11 FG, 4-4 FT, 3-7 3Pt), six assists and four rebounds across 28 minutes in Friday's 117-116 win over the Lakers.
Many of LaVine's usual first-unit teammates are currently banged up, so the versatile two-way swingman will be forced to carry a larger role once the regular season gets underway. The team will take no chances with valuable pieces like Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) and DeMar DeRozan (groin), so they are unlikely to play until they are close to 100 percent. LaVine had his own injury scare Friday, as he kept trying to shake out his right wrist/hand. However, it didn't slow him down during the preseason finale and isn't expected to impact his availability for the regular-season opener.

Kings' Keon Ellis: Drills six threes from bench
Ellis logged 20 points (7-12 FG, 6-9 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and two steals over 26 minutes during Friday's 117-166 preseason win over the Lakers.
Ellis is making a case for the first unit, but his spot may be at the whim of how the scheme fits with coach Doug Christie's plans. Zach LaVine is versatile enough to hold down a wing position, but his presence there would force DeMar DeRozan (groin) into a larger frontcourt role that would be better served by someone like Keegan Murray (thumb). Since Murray's debut is still weeks away, we could see a lot more from Ellis to begin the regular season, but he'll still be pushed by Malik Monk for minutes at off-guard. Ellis avoided an injury scare during the preseason finale after colliding with Marcus Smart, but the youngster stayed in the game and is expected to be 100 percent for Opening Night.

Kings' Dennis Schroder: Scores team-high 25 points
Schroder produced 25 points (10-17 FG, 4-4 FT, 1-3 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and a steal across 28 minutes in Friday's 117-116 preseason win over the Lakers.
With a host of Kings out for injury or rest, Schroder took control of this game and posted a great total despite a minor injury scare. He needed assistance getting off the court after twisting his left ankle, but Schroder needed a brief visit to the locker room before returning to action. One of the pressing questions for the Kings will be the usage load at point guard, and the new addition of Russell Westbrook (rest) certainly adds an interesting wrinkle. The team gave Malik Monk (illness) a vote of confidence last season, but it seems apparent that he'll once again find himself as a second-unit backup option.

Kings' Nique Clifford: Starting sans DeRozan
Clifford will start in Friday's preseason game against the Lakers, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
With DeMar DeRozan (groin) sidelined in the Kings' preseason finale, Clifford will get the starting nod. The rookie first-round pick could see increased playing time to begin the regular season due to Keegan Murray (thumb) being on the shelf.

Kings' Isaac Jones: Promoted to starting role
Jones is in the starting lineup for Friday's preseason game against the Lakers, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
The Kings are thin in the frontcourt since Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) and Keegan Murray (thumb) are out, thrusting Jones into an elevated role. The second-year big will try to show what he can do in an extended role while operating next to Drew Eubanks in the frontcourt.

Kings' Drew Eubanks: Starting vs. Lakers
Eubanks is starting Friday's preseason game against the Lakers, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
The Kings are tweaking their lineup for their preseason finale and will have Drew Eubanks starting at center over Dario Saric. Eubanks is vying for a role as a depth piece in the frontcourt.

Kings' Dario Saric: Heading to bench
Saric is not starting Friday's preseason game against the Lakers, Khobi Price of The Orange County Register reports.
The Kings will tweak their lineup for their preseason finale, and Drew Eubanks will get the nod at center with Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) out.

Kings' Russell Westbrook: Not ready to play Friday
Westbrook (reconditioning) is out for Friday's preseason finale against the Lakers, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports.
Westbrook is still ramping up after just joining the Kings on Thursday. The veteran floor general has five days to build up his activity before Wednesday's season opener in Phoenix.

Kings' DeMar DeRozan: Won't play Friday
DeRozan (groin) has been ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against the Lakers, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports.
DeRozan was considered probable due to a minor groin injury, so this is a bit surprising, even if it's just an exhibition. With Domantas Sabonis (hamstring) and Keegan Murray (thumb) already sidelined to begin the season, the Kings are being super cautious with their veteran forward.
... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Malik Monk: Sitting again Friday
Monk (illness) is out for Friday's preseason game against the Lakers, Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento reports.
Monk is still recovering from an illness, so he won't suit up for Friday's preseason finale. He should have ample time to recover before Wednesday's 2025-26 regular-season opener Wednesday against the Suns.

Kings' DeMar DeRozan: Probable for Friday
DeRozan (groin) is probable for Friday's preseason finale against the Lakers, Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento reports.
DeRozan is dealing with a minor groin issue, but this isn't something that will impact his status for Opening Night. The 36-year-old veteran has been an Iron Man throughout his career, appearing in at least 74 regular-season appearances in four straight campaigns while playing at least 36 minutes a night each year.

Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Will miss preseason finale
Sabonis has been diagnosed with a mild right hamstring strain and will sit out of Friday's preseason finale against the Lakers, NBA reporter Chris Haynes reports.
Sabonis suffered the injury during Wednesday's matchup against the Clippers, and his status for the start of the 2025-26 regular season is now in question. He was unable to practice Thursday and will have just over a week to rest up ahead of the regular-season opener. The Kings could have additional updates on Sabonis' status at some point over the next few days.

Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Status unclear for preseason finale
Sabonis (hamstring) is questionable for Friday's preseason finale against the Lakers, Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento reports.
Sabonis didn't practice Thursday after leaving Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers due to a right hamstring injury. The star big man underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, and his status should be updated ahead of Friday's final exhibition contest. Drew Eubanks and Dario Saric are the next men up on the depth chart at center.
... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Zach LaVine: Provides diverse line in loss
LaVine generated 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt), six assists, four rebounds and three steals across 28 minutes during Wednesday's 109-91 loss to the Clippers.
LaVine played close to his normal minute total in the loss and gave us a glimmer of his usual multi-category production. The Kings have acquired a true point guard in Dennis Schroder, so LaVine should be able to produce more off-the-ball opportunities with less pressure to direct the offense.
... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Nique Clifford: Scores team-high 19 points
Clifford produced 19 points (8-13 FG, 1-1 FT, 2-5 3Pt), three rebounds and a steal across 20 minutes in Wednesday's 109-91 loss to the Clippers.
Clifford is following up a stellar Summer League with standout performances in the preseason. He can fill a few different positions as a second-unit replacement, where the first-round pick should rise to the cusp of fantasy relevancy. The team was a bit short-handed due to Keegan Murray's (thumb) injury, but Clifford is likely to earn comparable minutes when the team is fully healthy.

Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Won't return due to injury
Sabonis has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers due to a right hamstring injury, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports. He generated 15 points (7-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists and one steal across 24 minutes before exiting.
Sabonis departs the contest in the second half of a blowout, and while injury specifics are unknown, it's a concerning occurrence for the Kings, who'll be without Keegan Murray (thumb) to start the season. Sabonis will have an opportunity to return to the hardwood Friday against the Lakers before Sacramento kicks off the regular season Oct. 22 at Phoenix. While Sabonis is sidelined, look for Drew Eubanks and Dario Saric to see more action.
