Top Hawks News

  • Hawks' Caleb Houstan: Earns two-way deal

Houstan signed a two-way contract with the Hawks on Saturday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.

This move was inevitable after the Hawks converted Keaton Wallace to a standard deal. Houstan, who previously played with the Magic, left a strong impression on the coaching staff during the preseason. His most notable performance was a 21-point outing against the Heat on Oct. 13.

  • Hawks' Keaton Wallace: Converted to standard deal

Wallace's two-way contract was converted to a standard one-year deal on Saturday, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.

Wallace apparently made a strong impression on the coaching staff during training camp. Across four preseason appearances, Wallace averaged 5.5 points, 5.0 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 16.6 minutes per contest.

  • Hawks' Trae Young: Records double-double Thursday

Young finished with 12 points (4-14 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 assists, seven rebounds and two steals in 28 minutes during Thursday's preseason loss to the Rockets.

After sitting out Monday's preseason game against the Heat, Young returned to action Thursday. In what was Atlanta's preseason finale, Young delivered a typical performance, albeit an inefficient one. The 2025-26 version of the Hawks could very well be the best collection of talent since Young was drafted. With so many offensive weapons, Young could very well lead the league in assists once again, making him a solid top-15 fantasy target.

  • Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher: Scores team-high 24 points

Risacher produced 24 points (10-18 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in 25 minutes during Thursday's preseason loss to Houston.

Risacher returned to the court after missing the previous game due to rest purposes. He twisted his ankle on the final play of the first half, but he started the second half and didn't miss a beat, leading the Hawks with 24 points in just 25 minutes. Atlanta is poised to make a push this season, following the offseason acquisition of Kristaps Porzingis, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard. However, a portion of the team's success could hinge on the improved play of Risacher following what was a serviceable rookie campaign.

  • Hawks' Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Drops 17 points in spot start

Alexander-Walker closed with 17 points (6-15 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), two rebounds, two assists and one block in 28 minutes during Thursday's preseason loss to the Rockets.

Alexander-Walker moved into the starting lineup, replacing Dyson Daniels, who was given the night off. Alexander-Walker ended as one of four Hawks players to score double-digits, an encouraging sign following his offseason move from Minnesota. He is slated to come off the bench, likely serving as a primary backup like Luke Kennard. While he typically won't play enough to be considered in standard fantasy drafts, Alexander-Walker is certainly more than capable of producing fantasy-worthy numbers, if and when he is handed a larger role.

  • Hawks' Kristaps Porzingis: Looks sharp in preseason finale

Porzingis tallied 23 points (8-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-8 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and one block over 28 minutes during Thursday's 133-115 preseason loss to the Rockets.

Porzingis received one more opportunity to prove that he's ready for the regular season, with the coaching staff giving four of the five starters 28 minutes on the court. The big man didn't disappoint in his final tune-up, securing a double-double by shooting with efficiency and being a constant presence on the glass. Porzingis and the Hawks will now get a short breather before taking the court for the 2025-26 regular-season opener Wednesday against Toronto.

  • Hawks' Mouhamed Gueye: Out Thursday

Gueye (rest) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Kevin Chouinard of the Hawks' official sitereports.

Gueye will sit out Atlanta's preseason finale due to rest purposes. The big man's next opportunity to play will come in Wednesday's regular-season opener against Toronto.

  • Hawks' N'Faly Dante: Sliding back to bench

Dante will be utilized off the bench during Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dante drew the start at center in Monday's exhibition while Kristaps Porzingis received the night off. The 23-year-old will move back to the bench with Porzingis returning to the first unit Thursday evening.

  • Hawks' Vit Krejci: Not starting Thursday

Krejci is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With Zaccharie Risacher back from a rest day, Krejci will return to the second unit, where his minutes will see a sizeable dip. Krejci has averaged at least 20 minutes per game in each of the last two seasons with Atlanta, making 79 regular-season appearances (30 starts).

  • Hawks' Jacob Toppin: Retreating to bench

Toppin is coming off the bench for Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Toppin drew a rare start during Monday's exhibition, with the Hawks electing to give the usual starting five a night off. The Kentucky product will slide back into a bench role Thursday with Zaccharie Risacher, Onyeka Okongwu and Kristaps Porzingis starting in the frontcourt.

  • Hawks' Onyeka Okongwu: Starting sans Johnson

Okongwu will start in Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With Jalen Johnson (rest) sitting out Atlanta's preseason finale, Okongwu will get the starting nod alongside Kristaps Porzingis. Okongwu is expected to serve as Porzingis' top backup in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Hawks' Asa Newell: Returning to bench role

Newell will be deployed off the bench in Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Newell took full advantage of an opportunity to start Monday, totaling 19 points, eight boards, two assists, two steals and two blocks in 36 minutes. However, he'll retreat to his usual role Thursday with most of Atlanta's usual starting five back in action.

  • Hawks' Nickeil Alexander-Walker: Starting sans Daniels

Alexander-Walker will start in Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

With Dyson Daniels (rest) sidelined, Alexander-Walker will start in Atlanta's preseason finale. The 27-year-old swingman is expected to serve as one of the Hawks' top options off the bench in the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Hawks' Keaton Wallace: Not starting Thursday

Wallace is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's exhibition with the Rockets, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Wallace started Monday's exhibition with the Hawks resting most of their key guys. However, with almost everyone back Thursday evening, Wallace will return to a reserve role.

  • Hawks' Dyson Daniels: Won't play Thursday

Daniels (rest) will not suit up for Thursday's preseason finale against the Rockets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.

Daniels will sit out Atlanta's final exhibition game, but he'll be fine for Opening Night on October 22. It'll be interesting to see if he can replicate the 3.0 steals per game he averaged last season, and if he can, he'll have no trouble flirting with top-15 value.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hawks' Jalen Johnson: Resting Thursday

Johnson is out for rest purposes for Thursday's preseason finale against the Rockets, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.

The Hawks had signaled earlier in the week that their starters would all be in action Thursday, but they've since decided to give Johnson the night off. The star forward should be ready to roll for the start of the regular season, which begins Wednesday against the Raptors.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hawks' Deivon Smith: Waived by Hawks

The Hawks waived Smith on Wednesday.

The Hawks originally signed Smith to a training camp contract Monday, so his stay didn't last long. Atlanta will retain his G League rights, so he'll likely make his way over to the College Park Skyhawks next.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hawks' Mouhamed Gueye: Likely to play Thursday

Gueye (rest) is likely to be available for Thursday's preseason finale against Houston, Caleb Johnson of 92.9 The Game reports.

Gueye joined the Hawks' regular contributors in street clothes in Monday's preseason game against the Heat, but he should be in uniform Thursday. Atlanta's starters could see close to a normal allotment of minutes in this final tune-up game, so Gueye may not see a heavy load off the bench.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hawks' Dyson Daniels: Set for action in preseason finale

Daniels (rest) is likely to play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Rockets, Caleb Johnson of 92.9 The Game reports.

The 22-year-old defensive menace is set to see his final reps of the preseason Thursday. With head coach Quin Snyder emphasizing the need for conditioning ahead of Opening Night, Daniels could see court time during the second half against Houston.

... See More ... See Less
  • Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher: Will play vs. Houston

Risacher (rest) has been cleared to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Rockets, Caleb Johnson reports.

Risacher will get plenty of time on the floor during the team's preseason finale. Head coach Quin Snyder made it clear he'll be playing his top players, considering there will be ample time before the regular-season opener against the Raptors on Oct. 22.
