Top Oilers News

  • Oilers' James Hamblin: Earns three points in AHL win

Hamblin scored twice on four shots and added an assist in AHL Bakersfield's 5-4 overtime win over Coachella Valley on Sunday.

Hamblin was held off the scoresheet in the Condors' first two games before this breakout effort. The 26-year-old had 19 goals and 45 points in 51 regular-season AHL outings last year. He's earned 41 appearances for the Oilers at the NHL level, but with just three points in those games, he's unlikely to have much of a scoring presence if he gets a call-up in 2025-26.

  • Oilers' Kasperi Kapanen: Exits game Sunday

Kapanen (undisclosed) won't return to Sunday's game against Detroit, per Sportsnet.

Kapanen logged only 5:43 of ice time before leaving. He entered Sunday's matchup with two assists and 13 hits across five appearances this season. It's unclear at this time if he will be available for Tuesday's game against Ottawa, but David Tomasek or Curtis Lazar could fill in if Kapanen misses time.

  • Oilers' Jake Walman: Scratched despite activation

Walman remains out of the lineup Sunday despite being activated off injured reserve, Bob Stauffer of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Walman, who is returning from an undisclosed injury, took part in warmups in his first time suiting up this season, but he is not in the lineup for the team's game against the Red Wings. The season debut for the 29-year-old will have to wait until at least Tuesday, when the Oilers are next in action.

  • Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Gets starting nod

Skinner will start Sunday's game against the Red Wings, Paige Martin of the Oilers' official site reports.

Skinner will face a red-hot Red Wings team that's riding a four-game winning streak. The 26-year-old has allowed three goals in two of his three starts -- both losses -- and also has a shutout on the season. All told, the goaltender has a 1.97 GAA and .921 save percentage, a strong start to the campaign.

  • Oilers' Jake Walman: Returning from IR

Walman has been activated off injured reserve by the Oilers, according to the NHL Media site.

Walman, who signed a big extension with the Oilers just prior to the season, hasn't been available for any of the team's games this season, and was placed on IR to start the year. He's officially been activated, though, with Alec Regula being placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. The insertion of the 29-year-old Walman to the team's defense corps is a major boost since Walman produced eight points in 15 regular-season games with the Oilers in a top-four role last season after coming over from the Sharks via trade.

  • Oilers' Alec Regula: Moves to IR

Regula (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Sunday, per the NHL media site.

Regula is poised to miss his fourth straight game against Detroit on Sunday, and it's unclear when he will be ready to return. He didn't earn a point in Edmonton's first two games of the season while providing three shots on goal and two blocked shots.

  • Oilers' Darnell Nurse: Pockets assist Saturday

Nurse recorded an assist, two shots on goal, two hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Nurse has picked up two assists over five games to begin the season. The 30-year-old defenseman is holding a spot on the second power-play unit, though that's not a particularly generous spot on the Oilers. Nurse has added 10 hits, 15 blocked shots, 11 shots on net and a minus-1 rating while seeing top-four minutes. His non-scoring production is high-end, which makes Nurse a viable fantasy blueliner in a number of formats.

  • Oilers' Jack Roslovic: Gets first point with new team

Roslovic logged an assist and three shots on goal in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

This was Roslovic's first point in three games since he signed with the Oilers just after the start of the season. He's filled a middle-six role with no power-play time so far, which isn't ideal for his scoring output. The 28-year-old had 39 points in 81 regular-season outings with the Hurricanes last year, and he earned two of those points on the power play while averaging 1:26 per game with the man advantage. He'll be a player to watch if he gets promoted into the top six.

  • Oilers' Curtis Lazar: Scores late in team debut

Lazar scored a goal and added two hits in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Lazar played the last two years with New Jersey before signing with the Oilers in free agency. This was his debut for Edmonton, and he scored in the dying seconds of the game, though it wasn't enough to avoid the loss. Last year, Lazar was limited to five points, 107 hits and a minus-6 rating in 48 regular-season appearances, but he had a career-best 25 points in 71 outings the year before. Without consistent playing time for the Oilers, he's a fantasy risk -- especially since rookie Isaac Howard was scratched to make space for Lazar's team debut.

  • Oilers' Connor McDavid: Two helpers in New Jersey

McDavid notched two assists in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

Both helpers came on tallies by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, but the Oilers' offense didn't have much else going on in the afternoon affair. McDavid has a five-game point streak going to begin the season, and while he's still looking for his first goal of 2025-26, the 28-year-old superstar already has seven assists.

  • Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Lights lamp twice in loss

Nugent-Hopkins scored two goals in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.

The Oilers never led in the game, but Nugent-Hopkins did his best to keep his team in the contest with tallies late in the second and third periods. The 32-year-old has gotten off to a fast start to the season, racking up four goals and six points in five games. During Saturday's contest, Nugent-Hopkins skated on a line with Connor McDavid at even strength while holding down his spot on the top power-play unit.

  • Oilers' Calvin Pickard: Burned by Devils

Pickard stopped 18 of 22 shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to New Jersey, with the Devils' fifth goal getting scored into an empty net.

After a scoreless first period, the Devils' offense got rolling with a Jack Hughes tally midway through the second, and the Oilers were never able to catch up. Pickard has started two of Edmonton's first five games while working behind Stuart Skinner in the crease, going 1-1-0 and allowing five goals on just 37 shots.

  • Oilers' Alec Regula: Not playing Saturday

Regula (undisclosed) won't play against New Jersey on Saturday, per Oilers play-by-play announcer Jack Michaels.

Regula will miss his third straight game, and it's unclear when he will be ready to return to the lineup. He hasn't earned a point in two appearances this season while posting three shots on goal and two blocked shots.

  • Oilers' Calvin Pickard: Set to start Saturday

Pickard is expected to start in Saturday's road game against New Jersey, per Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

Pickard is making his second start of the campaign after stopping 14 of 15 shots in Edmonton's 3-1 win last Saturday against Vancouver. Pickard tends to do well against the Devils, posting a 4-1-0 record, 1.79 GAA and .927 save percentage across six career regular-season outings. New Jersey has a 3-1-0 record while ranking eighth in goals per game with 3.50 in 2025-26.

  • Oilers' Ty Emberson: Snags helper in loss

Emberson posted an assist in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Islanders.

Emberson picked up his first point in four games when he set up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' second-period tally. The 25-year-old Emberson is in a bottom-four role to begin 2025-26, and barring injuries, that's likely where he'll stay throughout the year. He's added four shots on net, seven blocked shots and a plus-2 rating while averaging 15:09 of ice time, which is in line with last year.

  • Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Scores second goal of season

Nugent-Hopkins scored a goal and took five shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Islanders.

Nugent-Hopkins had three points in the season opener against the Flames on Oct. 8 but didn't crack the scoresheet in the subsequent two contests. He snapped that two-game skid with a second-period tally Thursday, a snap shot from the left circle that gave the Oilers a momentary 2-1 lead. Nugent-Hopkins is up to four points (two goals, two assists) in four games to open the season.

  • Oilers' Leon Draisaitl: Pots PP goal Thursday

Draisaitl scored a power-play goal in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Islanders.

Draisaitl evened the scoring at 17:40 of the first period with his third goal of the campaign. The star winger has just one even-strength point -- a goal -- through four games this year, but he's also contributed two goals and an assist with the man advantage over that span. Draisaitl should remain one of the Oilers' go-to scoring options when Edmonton takes on the Devils on Saturday.
