Gafford (ankle) participated in the non-contact portions of Saturday's practice, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Coach Jason Kidd said he was unsure of Gafford's status for Opening Night on Oct. 22, but he wasn't ready to rule him out. Gafford has been battling a sprained ankle since the first day of Dallas' training camp, but he appears to be trending in a positive direction.

Cisse and the Mavericks agreed to a two-way contract Saturday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.

  • Mavericks' Zhaire Smith: Signs with Dallas

  • Mavericks' Jamarion Sharp: Signs with Dallas

Sharp signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Mavericks on Friday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports.

Sharp has spent a lot of time with the franchise, and the Mavericks are looking to secure his G League rights again so he suits up for the Texas Legends. He's expected to be waived shortly.

  • Mavericks' Matt Cross: Signs with Dallas

The Mavericks don't have any roster space. Cross will likely be waived so he can join the Texas Legends in the G League.

  • Mavericks' Dwight Powell: Minor role in preseason

Powell posted four points (2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and two steals in nine minutes during Wednesday's 121-94 preseason win over the Lakers.

Powell averaged 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 14.4 minutes across four preseason games. With Daniel Gafford (ankle) banged up, Powell may be in store for elevated minutes behind Dereck Lively and Anthony Davis to begin the regular season.

  • Mavericks' Caleb Martin: Goes through practice

Martin (undisclosed) went through practice Friday, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

This bodes well for his chances of being available for Wednesday's season opener against San Antonio. Martin is ticketed for a reserve role this season.

  • Mavericks' Daniel Gafford: Limited to individual work

Gafford (ankle) was limited to individual work at Friday's practice, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Gafford remains restricted due to a sprained ankle, which he suffered during the first day of Dallas' training camp. If the big man cannot gain clearance before Wednesday's season opener against the Spurs, Dereck Lively would be in line for a heavier dose of playing time at center.

  • Mavericks' P.J. Washington: Nets 13 points in starting role

Washington totaled 13 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 FT, 1-4 3Pt), five rebounds, six assists and two steals across 28 minutes in Wednesday's 121-94 win over the Lakers.

Due to Dallas' recent additions, Washington's role is a bit cloudy. Since Anthony Davis will play the four alongside a crew of centers, Washington could end up as the odd man out with the remaining wing positions. Washington's likely role in the second unit deserves a downgrade in drafts, as there would need to be a major shakeup for him to earn first-unit minutes.

  • Mavericks' Cooper Flagg: Decent total in blowout win

Flagg tallied 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-3 FT, 0-2 3Pt), three assists and two rebounds over 28 minutes in Wednesday's 121-94 preseason win over the Lakers.

Since preseason games mean very little, the Mavericks aren't placing many restrictions on Flagg and allowing him to be a bit more liberal with his shotmaking. Once the regular season commences, it'll be important to keep Flagg's inexperience from becoming a liability at full speed. He's taking several chances on low-percentage shots currently, and he needs more coaching to cultivate discipline in finding better scoring opportunities.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Scores team-high 18 points

Davis finished with 18 points (7-15 FG, 4-7 FT, 0-3 3Pt), nine rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot across 32 minutes in Wednesday's 121-94 preseason win over the Lakers.

Davis racked up a good number against his former team, and the big man's minutes ramped up to the kind of usage he'll see in the regular season. The increase is likely a conditioning move for the Mavericks, who need Davis to be at full strength right away when the regular season commences next week.

  • Mavericks' Caleb Martin: Ruled out Wednesday

Martin (undisclosed) is inactive for Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Daniel Starkand of LakersNation.com reports.

Martin practiced Tuesday but will sit out Wednesday's preseason finale due to an undisclosed injury. With the details of the issue still unclear and Martin having missed all of preseason, his availability for the regular-season opener is uncertain.

Russell (rest) will play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Russell rested during the Mavs' previous exhibition contest, but he'll be available for Dallas on Wednesday. The veteran point guard is slotted to open the 2025-26 regular season as the Mavericks' starting PG while Kyrie Irving recovers from a torn ACL.

Banton (rest) will be available for Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

  • Mavericks' Caleb Martin: Practices Tuesday

Head coach Jason Kidd said Martin (undisclosed) participated in Tuesday's practice, and the team will monitor how he feels ahead of Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers before making a final decision on his availability, Eddie Sefko of the Mavericks' official site reports.

Martin has yet to suit up this preseason and will likely be a game-time decision ahead of Wednesday's preseason finale. The 30-year-old swingman is coming off a down season in 2024-25, during which he averaged 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 42.4 percent from the field across 27.1 minutes per game in 45 regular-season outings (24 starts) between Dallas and Philadelphia.

  • Mavericks' Brandon Williams: Goes through practice

Williams (hamstring) practiced Tuesday, Eddie Sefko of the Mavericks' official site reports.

Williams has been dealing with a hamstring issue, which has kept him sidelined for the preseason. With one preseason game remaining on the schedule for Dallas, Williams is trending in the right direction after participating in Tuesday's practice session. However, it remains uncertain whether he'll be available to play in Wednesday's preseason finale against the Lakers.

  • Mavericks' Anthony Davis: Set for bump in minutes

The Mavericks plan to increase Davis' minutes in Wednesday's preseason game against the Lakers, Kevin Gray Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports.

Davis played 25 minutes in Monday's preseason win over the Jazz, so perhaps he'll log somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 minutes Wednesday. The superstar big man should be all systems go for the Oct. 22 regular-season opener against the Spurs.

  • Mavericks' Jaden Hardy: Plays well off bench

Hardy recorded 13 points (5-15 FG, 3-9 3Pt), six rebounds, three assists and three turnovers in 18 minutes of Monday's 114-101 preseason win over the Jazz.

D'Angelo Russell was rested Monday, so the Mavericks opted to start Cooper Flagg at point guard. Hardy made the most of his limited run off the bench, but Ryan Nembhard, who is also vying for rotation minutes, played 26 minutes and had six points, 12 assists and five rebounds.

  • Mavericks' Miles Kelly: Produces 14 points off bench

Kelly recorded 14 points (5-12 FG, 4-10 3Pt), one rebound and one steal in 12 minutes of Monday's 114-101 preseason win over the Jazz.

Kelly, who is on a two-way contract with the Mavericks, excelled in limited minutes off the bench Monday. Through three exhibitions, the guard is averaging 7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 three-pointers on 36.8 percent shooting from the field in 12.8 minutes per contest.
