Red Wings' Axel Sandin-Pellikka: Opens scoring Friday
Sandin-Pellikka scored a goal on two shots, blocked four shots and added two PIM in Friday's 2-1 overtime win over the Lightning.
The goal came at 13:02 of the first period, and it was Sandin-Pellikka's first NHL point. He's otherwise performed pretty well for a 20-year-old rookie defenseman, racking up 11 blocked shots and eight shots on net, though he also has a minus-3 rating and six PIM. The Red Wings have deployed him in a second-pairing role with power-play time. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to hold an NHL gig all season or if he'll need some minutes at AHL Grand Rapids.

Red Wings' Axel Sandin-Pellikka: Logs big minutes in debut
Sandin Pellikka made his NHL debut in Detroit's 5-1 loss to Montreal on Thursday.
Sandin Pellikka certainly wasn't eased into the league. He logged a staggering 22:34 of ice time, including 1:13 with the man advantage. He didn't stand out statistically despite that -- no points, one shot and one block -- but if Thursday's game is reflective of how Detroit plans to utilize the 20-year-old going forward, then he will be worth keeping an eye on. Sandin Pellikka recorded 29 points in 46 regular-season outings as well as eight points in 11 playoff appearances with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League in 2024-25.

Red Wings' Axel Sandin Pellikka: Loaned to AHL affiliate
Sandin Pellikka was assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
Sandin Pellikka had 12 goals and 29 points in 46 regular-season appearances with SHL Skelleftea AIK in 2024-25 before adding one goal and seven assists in 11 playoff outings. The 20-year-old defender will probably see playing time in the AHL to conclude the 2024-25 campaign. The Red Wings selected Sandin Pellikka with the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He could earn a roster spot with Detroit in 2025-26.

Red Wings' Axel Sandin Pellikka: Showcases talent at WJC
Sandin Pellikka recorded four goals, six assists and a plus-8 rating over seven appearances at the 2025 World Junior Championship between late December and early January, Jonathan Mills of the Red Wings' official site reports.
Sandin Pellikka suited up for Team Sweden during the world juniors, and although the team was unable to take home a medal in this year's tournament, the 19-year-old performed well on the international stage. Sandin Pellikka has now returned to Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, where he's recorded eight goals, 14 assists, 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 29 appearances this season. The 19-year-old was named the World Junior Championship Best Defenseman while playing for Team Sweden, and he said that he hopes to continue improving defensively over the remainder of the SHL campaign.

Red Wings' Axel Sandin Pellikka: Signs entry-level contract
Sandin Pellikka signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Detroit on Monday.
Sandin Pellikka generated 10 goals and 18 points in 39 games with Skelleftea AIK of the SHL during the 2023-24 regular season. He also earned two goals and five assists in 14 playoff outings en route to helping his team become SHL champions. The Red Wings selected the 19-year-old blueliner with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Sandin Pellikka could get a long look at training camp in the fall before potentially being loaned back to his Swedish team. He could also spend most of 2024-25 in the AHL with Grand Rapids.
