Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Drops second straight game
Skinner made 20 of 23 saves in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Red Wings. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Skinner's struggles from his last appearance continued, allowing three goals in the second period before the rookie Emmitt Finnie tied the bow on his breakout performance with an empty-net tally. With the loss, Skinner now has a 1-2-1 record with a 2.23 GAA and a .909 save percentage in four appearances this season. The 26-year-old goalie's performances across his three starts during Edmonton's four-game road trip display some of the inconsistencies he's faced in his career. After a 30-save shutout win over the Rangers, he surrendered three goals each to the Islanders and Red Wings. For the time being, Skinner might continue to be a coin-flip in net for the Oilers, making him a frustrating option in fantasy, but one with decent value playing for the reigning Stanley Cup runners-up. His next chance to bounce back is Tuesday against the Senators, should he get the start over Calvin Pickard.

Skinner will start Sunday's game against the Red Wings, Paige Martin of the Oilers' official site reports.
Skinner will face a red-hot Red Wings team that's riding a four-game winning streak. The 26-year-old has allowed three goals in two of his three starts -- both losses -- and also has a shutout on the season. All told, the goaltender has a 1.97 GAA and .921 save percentage, a strong start to the campaign.

Skinner shut out the Rangers on Tuesday, so it's not a surprise he'll be rewarded with a second straight start. Calvin Pickard is also in the mix, but if Skinner gets on a good run of play, he'll likely continue to handle a starting role. Skinner will look to rebound Tuesday after giving up three goals on 22 shots (.864 save percentage) in the season-opening loss against Calgary on Wednesday. The Rangers are 2-2-0 to start the year, and while they've scored 10 goals across a pair of games on the road, they have been shut out twice at home by the Penguins and Capitals. Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Squanders lead in season opener

A couple of bad bounces led to the Flames' first two goals, but it was Skinner's own puck-handling mishap early in the third that led to the tying tally. He then stopped six of eight shootout attempts, but Dustin Wolf was one save better, leaving Skinner on the hook for a frustrating loss to open the season. The 26-year-old can't afford many blunders this year, as the spotlight has already been on him for his playoff struggles despite the team's overall success. Should Skinner go through an extended slump, Calvin Pickard could earn an even split of time in the crease, or the Oilers could opt to make a move to upgrade their goaltending altogether. Two goals went into an empty net when the Oilers were trying to push for their first goal late in the third frame. Skinner has struggled to gain the faith of fans with a few too many beachball goals, and Tuesday was no different, especially with the first snipe. He finished the postseason with seven wins, a 2.99 GAA and an .889 save percentage in 15 starts.
