Jets' Jonathan Toews: Tallies first point since 2022
Toews posted an assist and blocked two shots in Monday's 5-2 win over the Islanders.
For the first time since the 2022-23 season, NHL fans can celebrate the inclusion of Toews back on a scoresheet. Not only did the 37-year-old center grab his first point in the past three seasons, but he did so on a power play, as he registered the second assist on Nino Niederreiter's goal in the first period. With his first point out of the way, Toews should continue to see middle-six minutes with the added bonus of power-play time on the second unit. Toews likely won't be the 81-point player we saw in the 2018-19 season, but his early involvement in the offense is an encouraging sign that he has some high-level play left in the tank. While he shouldn't be on the fantasy radar in standard formats, Toews could bounce back into a solid option in deeper leagues on a Winnipeg team coming off a 116-point 2024-25 regular season.

Jets' Jonathan Toews: In action versus Stars
Toews (undisclosed) will be in the lineup for Thursday's season opener against the Stars, Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Toews will not only be making his Winnipeg debut, but he will be playing in an NHL game for the first time since 2022-23, when he was with the Blackhawks. In that final season with Chicago, the center notched 15 goals and 16 helpers in 53 regular-season tilts, including 12 power-play points. If he can produce at that level in 2025-26, his one-year deal with the Jets will be considered a success.

Jets' Jonathan Toews: Set for stint on IR
Toews (undisclosed) was placed on non-roster, injured reserve Monday, per PuckPedia.
Head coach Scott Arniel deemed Toews day-to-day Thursday, but it's currently unclear if the severity of the 37-year-old's injury has worsened over the last several days due to his placement on non-roster injured reserve. The Manitoba native "tweaked something" in preseason action last week. Considering the Jets have a deep forward group, the organization will probably be extremely cautious with Toews' recovery, especially since he hasn't played in the NHL since 2022-23. Vladislav Namestnikov will center the second line as long as Toews is unavailable.

Jets' Jonathan Toews: Considered day-to-day
Toews (undisclosed) was labeled day-to-day by head coach Scott Arniel on Thursday, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports.
Toews seems unlikely to suit up in Friday's preseason finale against the Flames, and he instead should be expected to focus on being 100 percent ahead of Opening Night against the Stars on Oct. 9. Barring any setbacks, the veteran center should slide into the No. 2 center role for the Jets, at least until Adam Lowry (hip) is cleared to return. At that point, Toews could be shifted to the wing while remaining in a top-six role.

Jets' Jonathan Toews: Needs further evaluation
Toews (undisclosed) "tweaked something" in Tuesday's preseason game versus the Wild and will undergo further evaluation in the coming days, Murat Ates of The Athletic reports.
Toews exited the game in the second period and did not return. The 37-year-old center was one of two Jets to leave the contest, as Vladislav Namestnikov (upper body) was also hurt. Toews' status should be updated prior to the Jets' preseason finale Friday in Calgary.

Toews agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with Winnipeg on Friday.
Toews will sign a bonus-laden contract as he has been out of hockey for the last two seasons. The contract will become official July 1, due to the CBA. The 37-year-old spent 15 seasons with the Blackhawks, captaining the team to three Stanley Cups. Toews had 15 goals and 31 points in 53 regular-season games in 2022-23, his last season in the NHL. He should play as the Jets' second-line center, behind Mark Scheifele, as well as seeing plenty of time on the power play.

Toews announced on Instagram that he won't play in 2023-24.
Toews has battled health issues related to long COVID over the last few seasons and wants to take some time to focus on getting better. However, he's not retiring and still might return in 2024-25. The 35-year-old had 15 goals and 31 points in 53 contests with Chicago last year. Toews entered the summer as an unrestricted free agent after completing his eight-year, $84 million contract.

Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews: Scores one more goal with Chicago
Toews found the back of the net in Chicago's 5-4 overtime loss to Philadelphia on Thursday.
Toews' marker came on the power play and reduced Philadelphia's lead to 4-3 midway through the second period. Ultimately, the Blackhawks still lost the game and they were long since eliminated from the playoff race, making Chicago's season finale moot from that perspective. Even with the goal, Toews' 15 tallies and 31 points in 53 contests in 2022-23 represents a far cry from the sort of numbers the 34-year-old produced in his prime. Even still, it was a goal to remember, because it was likely his last with the Blackhawks. Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson has already announced that the team doesn't plan to re-sign Toews this summer. The veteran forward has 372 goals and 883 points in 1,067 career appearances with the Blackhawks, and he played a key role in their Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

Blackhawks' Jonathan Toews: Final game with Blackhawks
Toews will play his final game as a Blackhawk on Thursday.
Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson sent out a statement saying that the Blackhawks will not re-sign Toews in the offseason. The 34-year-old will play his 1,067th NHL game Thursday, all with Chicago -- look for him to get a massive ovation as he led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships as the team's captain. Toews has only 14 goals and 30 points in 52 games this season. It remains to be seen if he'll retire at the end of the campaign or enter free agency in the summer.
