Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Out for Sunday
McCollum (thumb) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the 49ers, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
McCollum was unable to practice both Wednesday and Thursday after undergoing a procedure on his thumb earlier in the week, so it's no surprise that he'll be sidelined Sunday. The fourth-year pro has appeared in all five of Tampa Bay's games thus far, recording 31 total tackles and one pass defended. In his absence, Jamel Dean and Josh Hayes are expected to operate as the Bucs' top outside cornerback tandem.

Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Sidelined again Thursday
McCollum (thumb) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
McCollum initially injured his thumb in Week 4 and played last Sunday against the Seahawks, but he underwent surgery on the thumb earlier this week. If McCollum is unable to play Sunday against the 49ers, Kindle Vildor, Josh Hayes and Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) would be next in line for increased action on defense.

McCollum suffered a thumb injury during the Buccaneers' Week 4 loss to the Eagles. He was able to play against the Seahawks in Week 5 but has since undergone a procedure for the injury, which puts him in jeopardy of missing Sunday's game against the 49ers. McCollum's practice participation over the next two days will shed light on his odds of playing Sunday, but his absence would open the door for Kindle Vildor, Josh Hayes and rookie second-rounder Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) to see additional snaps on defense.

Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Undergoes thumb procedure
Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Wednesday that McCollum had a procedure done after sustaining a thumb injury in the Week 4 loss to the Eagles, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Bowles noted that McCollum's status for Sunday's matchup against the 49ers will come down to the end of the week, but he was spotted with his left arm in a sling Wednesday, which suggests he's likely trending in the wrong direction. McCollum's practice participation throughout the week is expected to provide the best indication of whether he can suit up in Week 6. If he's unavailable, Josh Hayes is likely to take over as one of Tampa Bay's top outside corners.

McCollum finished second on Tampa Bay in tackles behind Lavonte David, who had 11. Through three games, McCollum has racked up 24 stops, racing out of the gate as he looks to surpass the career-best 82 tackles he recorded over 17 regular-season games last year. McCollum was dealing with a neck injury throughout the week leading up to the game, but that didn't seem to slow him down as he ended up playing every defensive snap in addition to finishing second on the team in tackles behind Tykee Smith's 10. The 26-year-old is coming off the best season of his young career where he recorded 82 tackles (55 solo) and two interceptions in 17 games, and will look to have similar production over the remaining 15 games of the current campaign.

A neck issue resulted in McCollum logging a limited practice session Thursday, but he appears to be past the injury given his return to full participation Friday. Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Lands $48M extension
The Bucs signed McCollum to a three-year, $48 million contract extension Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The deal contains $35.4 million guaranteed and has McCollum under contract through the 2028 campaign. The 26-year-old was set to enter the final year of his rookie deal after starting all 17 regular-season games last season, a year in which he recorded 82 tackles (55 solo), 17 pass breakups, including two interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
