About the In-Person Workshop
Pesticide Applicator Short Course will help build a foundation of knowledge about the safe and proper handling and use of pesticides. Designed in a classroom-style setting, this seven-day course prepares professionals to take the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture certified pesticide applicator’s exam. Customize your experience by registering for the specific days that interest you most, or attend all seven days at the discounted rate of $150. Certification Exam Study Materials
Study materials are not included in the registration fee. All participants are responsible for obtaining their own Core and Category certification examination training materials for the class.
Order your training packets in advance at the Certification Exam Study Materials website to ensure they arrive in time for you to use during the course. If you are planning to use study packets that were previously purchased, please be aware that some materials have been updated. Please be sure your study materials include the updated manuals.

Scheduling Your Exam
The pesticide applicator licensing exam will not be offered as part of this course. To find a convenient location and time to take your exam and make your reservation, go to the Pesticide Exam Search.
Space is limited! Preregistration is required!
- Commercial Applicators - Those employed applying pesticides to customer’s properties (i.e., those who apply pesticides for hire)
- Public Applicators - Those employed by the state, a municipality, a public school district, or whose employer is funded by public money
- Private Applicators - Those who intend to purchase and apply restricted use pesticides to property they or their employer own or rent for the production of an agricultural commodity, including nursery and greenhouse
- Core - Training and testing on pesticide safety and regulations is required for every certified applicator.
- Category 06: Ornamental and Shade Trees - Required for applicators treating trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants in residential and commercial landscapes.
- Category 07: Lawn and Turf - Required for applicators treating lawn and turf areas.
- Cat. 10 Right-of-way and Weeds - Required for applicators controlling vegetation on rights-of-way, roads and industrial sites, as well as landscapers who control weeds on sidewalks and driveways.
- Category 23: Park/School Pest Control - Required for applicators applying pesticides in a campground or recreational area of a public or private park or on elementary or secondary school property.

If a workshop or conference is at maximum capacity, can I be added to a waitlist?
Some workshops and conferences offer a waitlist option when they are at maximum capacity, and some do not. When the waitlist feature is offered, and a workshop or conference is at maximum capacity, you will be taken to a waitlist form after you click on the registration link. As spots become available, we offer them "first come, first served." If a spot becomes available, you will be contacted using the information you provided.
