It's been a good couple of weeks for the Hurricanes, who have broken from the gate 5-0. Carolina has also scored at least four goals in each game thus far as the offense has been humming. Several lines are racking up points, though Seth Jarvis is taking it to extremes, scoring six goals already in the first five games. Contributions, however, are numerous, with eight Canes already on four points or more. Though Mark Stone is apparently out tonight, Vegas can be expected to give chase, especially as Mitch Marner is now on the scoresheet, and Jack Eichel is heating up again. Play Canes-VGK Over

Any points, plus this extra hook, could prove valuable for Houston in what figures a tightly-contested and perhaps slower-paced game tonight in Seattle. The Texans are well-rested into tonight off of their bye, on the heels of back-to-back wins in which the defense allowed only 10 points total. Granted, just Tennessee and Lamar-less Baltimore, but CJ Stroud has found his rhythm, with 6 TD passes and 0 picks the past two games. Houston added in 167 rush yards vs. the Ravens in the best performance from the offense in the past two years. Strangely, Seattle seems to have more issues playing at home, where it has lost 8 of its last 10 games. Play Texans

This isn't going well for Calgary, as the Flames have lost a numbing five straight, outscored 22-7 in the process. The defense in front of Dustin Wolf has been in shambles, and the offense can't seem to find an extra gear. Jonathan Huberdeau did make his season debut on Saturday at Vegas and scored, but the lack of top-six firepower is obvious. Meanwhile, the Jets have started fast like last season, four wins in a row, outscoring foes 17-7 in the process, and Mark Scheifele an early Rocket Richard Trophy candidate with six goals in five games. Batten the hatches as it's Game Seven and both managers will go to their bullpens at the first sign of trouble for their pitchers. The trendlines in the ALCS have very much been to the over, landing that way in five straight games, with 59 runs scored across that span. Shane Bieber has only gone six innings a handful of times since being activated in August, and while serviceable on the hill for the Jays hasn't been dominant; his ERA is a so-so 4.06 since the start of September. Meanwhile, Seattle's George Kirby was blasted in Game 3, allowing eight runs (three homers) in just 4 IP. Big bats and runs have been the story of the ALCS! Play Mariners-Jays Over

One gets the feeling the Mariners have let their chance to close out this series slip past. A closer look at the last four games suggests Toronto could have won all of those and closed out the series last night, outscoring Seattle 27-8 in the three wins, and leading into the bottom of the 8th in Game 5 before Brendon Little and Seranthony Dominguez imploded. Shane Bieber also looks a better option the mound for the decider, having gone a solid 6 innings in Game 3, while the Mariners' George Kirby was routed, allowing 8 runs in 4 just IP. Vladdy Jr and his hot bat (six playoff homers) also spell trouble for Seattle pitchers on Monday. Play Jays on ML

Maybe all it took for the Rangers to snap out of their funk was one game like Saturday at Montreal. In the 4-3 win, the offense came to life again, especially Artemi Panarin, who scored a goal and had three assists. Now, it's back to MSG, and we know the Rangers have been blanked in each of their three home games, but that was all non-sensical, as Mike Sullivan's guys had plenty of quality chances in those games as well as the 2-1 OT loss at Toronto last week. Igor Shesterkin (.961 saves) has been brilliant in goal, and the Wild enters on the heels of three straight losses (scoring only four times) on the current road trip. Play Rangers on the Puck Line.

Can the Bucs make it two wins in a row at Detroit? Or, short of that, cover a number again tonight at Ford Field after winning 20-16 at this venue last season? Baker Mayfield made the big plays in that 20-16 win a year ago though he shared the spotlight with a defense that turned away the Lions twice when deep in Tampa Bay territory late in the game. The Bucs' stop unit has been able to stand up to the Lions better than most, and the wheels seemed to come off a bit for Detroit in the loss at KC. The Lions haven't lost back-to-back since 20022, but can they stretch this margin out to 7 or more vs. a hot Mayfield? Play Bucs

There are no tomorrows for the Blue Jays if they lose tonight, so John Schneider is very prepared to make this a bullpen game at the first sign of struggle from young Trey Yesevage, who wobbled on the mound in Game 2 The Blue Jays will be ready to jump on Logan Gilbert, too, as they did in that same Game 2 when tagging Gilbert for three runs (two earned) and five hits in just 3 IP, though they weren't able to do much with the Seattle bullpen last Monday after KOing Gilbert. Whatever, the ALCS has turned into an offensive show, with three straight games landing on the over side as 38 runs have been scored across that span. Play Mariners-Blue Jays Over

Joel Quenneville returns to Chicago tonight, but his new Ducks team is off of a 4-1 loss at Honda Center to the Canes before this road trip. Though the power play did click on Thursday and remains around 35% for the season, Lukas Dostal has not been especially sharp in goal, so Petr Mrazek (6.02 GAA from his one start, the 7-6 OT win at San Jose on October 11) likely gets the nod in net. The Blackhawks also look an improved bunch, and are kicking themselves for not being on a 2-game win streak after letting loose of a 2-0 lead vs. the Canucks on Friday, instead a 3-2 OT loss. Aggravating, yes, but the Cardinals at least always seem to keep it close. To with: the current four-game losing streak could just as easily be a four-game win streak, with those four losses by a combined 9 points. Jacoby Brissett in at QB for Kyler Murray, as appears to be the case again on Sunday, isn't as much of a negative as using a backup QB might be for other teams. As for the Packers, they have flown close to the flame a few times already this season, and they're winless (0-1-1) on the road against what seemed beatable foes in the Browns and Cowboys. They've won by more than seven points just once in their last eight road games as well. Play Cards

Denver's offense didn't pass the eye test last week vs. the Jets, but the defense made sure it didn't make for an extremely uncomfy flight back to DIA from Heathrow. As always, that stop unit can make a suspect offense look bad, and the Giants have progressed with Jaxson Dart now at the controls of the offense, he's still a rookie, and the voracious Broncos speed rush looks a good elixir for Dart's mobility as Vance Joseph's platoon has put clamps on mobile QBs before. Now, can Bo Nix and the Broncos offense pick up the pace? Remember, Denver was 7-0 last season as chalk, and its last eight home wins have been by 8 points or more. Play Broncos

One of these weeks, the Jets are going to break through. We wonder if it will come with Justin Fields at QB, as he seems to be regressing, everything grinding to a halt last week vs. Denver when the Jets gained barely 80 yards of offense. The career record for Fields as a starter in 5-24; we know the Jets want to see what they might have for the future in Fields, but they'd have a better chance if Tyrod Taylor was at QB. At least Bryce Young has learned how to win NFL games on the Carolina side, and the breakout of Rico Dowdle (almost 400 YR the past two weeks!) has leant a sharper edge to the Panthers. More intrigue here than it seemed a few weeks ago, all because Liverpool enters on a 3-match skid that has dropped it from the lead in the EPL. After being the toast of Merseyside last year, Arne Slot now hearing it from the supporters, wondering why Mo Salah isn't scoring goals as usual, and why ballyhooed new add Florian Wirtz isn't scoring at all. It should be noted, however, that Liverpool also hasn't been at Anfield for the losing streak, and how much trust can we have in Man U? A win over Sunderland is no indicator all is well, and remember, Ruben Amorim has yet to win back-to-back games since arriving from Sporting Lisbon last November. Play Liverpool on Spread

No Puka Nacua for the Rams on Sunday at Wembley, but there are other weapons at Matthew Stafford's disposal. Though the real fear vs. the Jags is their various ballhawks that can account for a quick change in direction, having recorded at least three takeaways on multiple occasions already this season. Short of that help, however, Trevor Lawrence and the offense can struggle as last week vs. Seattle, though the game-winning drive vs. the Chiefs two weeks ago suggests not to underestimate Liam Coen's offense. Still, as long as the Rams aren't haunted by their kicking issues (which have cost them their two losses), and don't let the Jags defense hijack their drives, J'ville's avenues to win become restricted. Things looking better for Villa than a few weeks ago when Unai Emery was still looking for his team to score a win. That's all changed lately, however, as the Villans have won two straight in the Prem as well as now 2-0 in the Europa League during an overall four-match uptick. It's also seven straight without a loss in all competitions, and Emery is surely soon to get some goals from sorts like Morgan Rogers, whose confidence is buoyed by recent appearances for Thomas Tuchel's England. Meanwhile, Spurs have been living dangerously as they've flown very close to the flame, leaving it very late to snatch a point both at home vs. Wolves and at Bodo Glimt in the UCL.
