Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Sports
![]() | Points of interest related to Sports on Wikipedia: Outline – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Sports. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Sports. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

The article is overly promotional, and the article creator seems to have a undisclosed WP:COI with the subject. Almost all of the article's references are 404 pages, and upon a quick search, the subject does not seem to be notable per WP:NCORP or WP:GNG. WormEater13 (talk • contribs) 16:13, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. Likely written entirely or partly using generative AI. Evidence: links are 404s despite the article being written today, access dates are all 2024-3-20 despite the article being written today, searching the source titles in quotes yields nothing, nothing is archived. The list of championships includes only 13 events, none of which have their own Wikipedia article. This leads me to believe the page may violate notability guidelines. I think it should be merged back into the main article, as it doesn't meet the criteria for a standalone page. However, given the heavy reliance on primary sources, there may be little, if any, content worth merging. Johnson524 06:14, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

- I don't see how you can ever reach that conclusion. It is a World Championship formally recognised by the IOC recognised sporting body. To add to this it is the "Youth" World Championship on the same equipment as used in the Olympic Games hence a number of high profile sailors. All the content for this has been on wikipedia for a number of years in templates. As per a previously agreed policy with other editors who requested that the events side is not on the same page as the equipment these event pages for each title were created. The title definately meets the sports notability requirement although I doubt individual event do. I will work more on the referencing but even this is much better than the previous 10 years. I would say this page also demostrates the usefullness of wikipedia as the official website for the RS:X disappeared within 18 months of the equipment not being used as Olympic equipment. The event is no longer held. Yachty4000 (talk) 01:27, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

As a biography of a minor-- and especially one who has been involved in social media controversy-- we need to be especially stringent with the sources we use and the information we include. (WP:BLP, WP:BLPPRIVACY, WP:BLPMINOR). The subject's most consistent coverage outside of sports blogs and such (which we don't consider reliable sources) isn't solely focused on him; it mostly concerns his father or his interactions with Livvy Dunne and Rob Gronkowski's interactions with him. This causes the article to fail WP:NOTNEWS; the most coverage the subject has gotten was from a few reliable sources over summer 2023. Since then, it's been mostly local news sources, press releases about apparently joking university commitments, and social media geared sites we don't consider when discussing notability (Bleacher Report, etc.) Maybe this kid will be more notable in the future-- but Wikipedia is not a WP:CRYSTALBALL. If/when reliable sources cover the subject in more detail, a better article can be written on him. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 22:10, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

This is an unusual AfD because it rests on one typical and one unusual rationale:
- The typical rationale: there is no significant coverage of him standalone from Minor Football League, which does have significant coverage. The material available could be selectively merged, though I notice the sources are promotional and do not establish notability.
- The unusual rationale: his claims of attending Arizona State or playing for the Patriots do not verify. The all-time ASU football roster does not list him, nor is he mentioned in any Arizona newspapers of the 1970s—nor is he in any NFL draft listings I can find on Wikipedia or other sources or in NFL records. The earliest mention I can see of either claim is a 1998 article in The Washington Post. I am fairly sure this is a fabricated biography (which he has used since the 1990s).Sammi Brie (she/her · t c) 22:18, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- As the original author of the article, I appreciate the point raised by Sammi Brie. I was not aware that the claims regarding his football background had been circulating unverified for so long. In hindsight, the information I found was not accurate or reliable enough to support a standalone biography, and I agree that deletion is the best course given the current evidence. While his contributions to the MFL may merit inclusion in that article, the subject himself does not meet the threshold for a standalone biography at this time. Unless verifiable primary or secondary sources emerge (e.g., archival ASU documents or reputable third-party reporting), deletion is appropriate. Wq4m820 (talk) 22:29, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
I have thought about this one for a while, and after that time, I do not see it meeting our notability guidelines. Consider:
- The only standalone notable games between the two is 4th and 26 and 1960 NFL Championship Game.
- They have only played each 48 times over 90 years and have never been in the same division.
- They have only played each other in the playoffs four times, with one of those happening just a month ago.
- A review of relevant sources does not show sustained use of the term "rivalry" to define the Packers and Eagles playing against each other (outside of local fluff pieces, like this), even though they have been doing so for 90 years. Even playing against each other in high profile, recent games (like in Brazil and this year's playoff game), there is not much, if any, discussion on this being a true rivalry, above the normal interactions that two teams have against each other in the NFL.
The Packers are an old franchise and have many rivalries, but all of their rivalries meet at least one of the four bullets above. For those reasons, I believe deletion is justified now. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:02, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the list of American football-related deletion discussions. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:02, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment. I'm not an expert on NFL rivalries and have tons of respect for Gonzo's knowlege of Packers history. FWIW, a quick search did turn up "Historically, Green Bay has had edge", a full page review of the rivalry's history. See also here and here. Cbl62 (talk) 15:48, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Honestly, I struggle with both this one and the Packers/Rams (they have played each other 100 times!). My main challenge is at some point a line has to be drawn, or the Packers will have rivalry page with every NFC team (maybe they should, idk). The Bucs were in the Packers division for years, the Cowboys/49ers/Seahawks all have a lot of notable moments, especially in the playoffs. I think I remember watching Week 1 last year (the Brazil Packers/Eagles game) and one commentator noted for two teams who have existed for so long, its surprising they don't have a stronger history. Idk, either way I won't be beat up about the result. Just trying to find the line in the sand on where a "long-term match-up" transitions to a "full rivalry". « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:19, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- I understand. In the college context, it's similar to Notre Dame or Alabama where we have ten rivalry articles for each program, in part because of the long history and legendary status of the programs. Cbl62 (talk) 17:16, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- philadelphiaeagles.com is the website of the Philadelphia Eagles (one of the involved teams), so it's not an independent source for this topic, and thus does not count towards notability. Left guide (talk) 23:30, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that it isn't a notability-establishing source in the Wikipedia sense of the word, but the fact that the Eagles have published a page discussing with some depth the history of their rivalry with the Packers is indicative of notability in a real-world sense. - Delete: I've always found these rivalry articles to be on the fringe of notability (not to mention terribly formatted). There should really only be a handful of them for historic ones and ones that tend to get coverage specifically for the matchup, such as Commanders-Cowboys, Bears-Packers, and Ravens-Steelers. The Eagles-Packers matchup last year had more coverage due to its location (Brazil) than any rivalry between them. The less notable ones like this one tend to just include game history, which borders on being WP:NOTDATABASE. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 23:49, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep: I would rather keep this page because it is an NFC rivalry and it grew last season due to Brazil game and wildcard game, as well as the tush push move the Eagles used the Packers tried to propose to ban. 2601:40A:8400:1820:6C48:3E23:BF66:29C4 (talk) 01:15, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
- Delete: As an Eagles fan I can tell you we have had little to no hatred for Green Bay at all (aside from this recent tush push thing), so I don't see this as notable. I don't believe two teams having several "cool" moments while playing each other over history (1960 championship, 4th & 26, Brazil, etc.) necessarily constitutes a rivalry, because again, there is little to no animosity between the two. So far, it seems that only Cbl62 and portions of Gonzo fan2007's and Dissident93's statements make any attempt to talk about sources. An uninvolved closer is unlikely to give much weight to most of the arguments on this page. Left guide (talk) 23:24, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. WP:SPORTBASIC appears to apply to bios not teams. WP:NTEAM says that there are no special notability criteria for teams other than those listed under particular sports and American football doesn't seem to be listed on that page? This defunct team appears to have been covered somewhat regularly by the Manchester, Nashua, and Keene newspapers with occasional coverage elsewhere. Jahaza (talk) 06:21, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment It's unclear what you're referring to: there are three references in the article. There is no coverage by newspapers from Nashua or Manchester(the first reference is a wire story), and only one story from Keene. "Somewhat regularly" would infer that they would have coverage of all, if not most, of their games in addition to other coverage. If this coverage exists, why has it not been added in the last decade? If you can assist with adding these references, you are welcome and encouraged to do so.Royal Autumn Crest (talk) 10:38, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]- List of professional baseball teams based in Davenport, Iowa (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Unsourced list which seems to fail WP:NLIST. I find no independent reliable sources that justify this being a standalone list. Although each of these teams existed, that does not justify a list. If sources are added, this might be a merger candidate to History of Davenport, Iowa. Without any sources, it's trivia that fails notability guidelines. Flibirigit (talk) 00:21, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Fails WP:NATHLETE. Ledbetter's professional career in European basketball was unremarkable and does not seem to have yielded coverage in German and Luxembourgish news. The currently listed sources are his entry in the Glenville State College Hall of Fame showering affiliated praise, a user comment from the DC Basketball Blog (not even the blog post itself), minor discussion of his single-game performance in The Glenville Mercury student newspaper, and a YouTube interview from the channel Alumni4life, a local varsity jackets retailer. While I found two other instances of Ledbetter's performance reported in the Glenville Mercury, neither instance bothered to mention his season-wide performance, much less broader commentary on him as an athlete/person. Being twice named to the First All-WVIAC Team is impressive, but for a NCAA Division II conference, that achievement seems below WP:NCOLLATH. ViridianPenguin🐧 (💬) 15:58, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

I think the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Indiana Gazette coverage when Ledbetter was playing in their respective areas is below the WP:NCOLLATH criterion of gaining "national media attention as an individual". Similarly, the Bedford County Press and Everett Press article is only a local newspaper reporting Saint Francis University's pride at recruiting Ledbetter. The Evening Sun article on Ledbetter's threat to not play at Crossland High School if transferred from Largo High School as part of D.C.'s racial integration is pretty interesting, though that coverage is not significant on him, nor did he follow through on that threat. - Keep all. For Big East Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year, I was easily able to find reliable secondary sources referencing each of the first 20 recipients of this award from 1997 through 2016 and added the references to the table here. There was a plethora of choices from which I was able to select. You will note that many of the references are not simply published lists from press releases but stories that went beyond routine coverage. Also, coverage in newspapers outside the locality of the award winners was present. This is beyond the standard set by WP:NLIST, since each individual entry does not need to be notable. While I suspect the article in this bulk nomination lack in referencing to demonstrate their notability, it is the referencing that is lacking, not the notability. They deserve tags stating such, but they should not be deleted. Taxman1913 (talk) 14:43, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep – The subject meets the inclusion criteria as defined in Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Notability#Individuals, which states that any cricketer who has played in a single officially recognized first-class, List A, or T20 match is presumed notable. Sajjad Ibraheem made his first-class debut for Peshawar in the 2024–25 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on 5 November 2024, in a match against Rawalpindi. This competition is recognized as first-class by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is the governing body of cricket in Pakistan. Sports figures need at the very least one independent source with significant coverage (WP:SIGCOV). JTtheOG (talk) 21:08, 22 May 2025 (UTC)- Thank you for the reply. While Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Notability is marked as inactive, the notability principle that first-class cricketers are presumed notable is still active policy via WP:NCRICKET, and has been consistently upheld at AfD. As per WP:NCRICKET: "Playing in a first-class match is usually sufficient for notability." This is supported by numerous prior AfD closures. This satisfies WP:NCRICKET and aligns with community consensus for cricketer notability. WP:GNG is not required when reliable subject-specific notability exists and has been broadly applied in practice. Behappyyar (talk) 21:15, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment: Just to clarify: WP:NCRICKET notes that significant coverage should not be assumed for all domestic players, but it also states that playing in an officially recognized first-class match is usually sufficient for notability. This reflects established AfD precedent. Since Sajjad Ibraheem debuted in a PCB-sanctioned first-class match, the subject meets this standard, regardless of media coverage.
- This will rest on whether sufficient sources can be found to meet the WP:GNG – something along the lines of WP:BASIC level. I don't read Urdu so can't determine if the source in that language would significantly help reach that sort of bar. Simply meeting NCRIC has not been considered sufficient for an article to be kept for years. In this case there appears to not be a suitable list to redirect the article to, so I would suggest sending the article to draft initially unless suitable sourcing can be found Blue Square Thing (talk) 08:39, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

I can't find sources that cover the rivalry in depth, only match reports / previews. None of these cover the rivalry in depth, just have passing mentions of them being rivals. As per WP:NRIVALRY the rivalry itself has to pass GNG. KEEP This is a perfectly valid article that should not have been put forward for deletion (if you get your kicks deleting articles people have worked hard on, at least focus on the many thousands of unnecessary articles on US sports and popular culture, rather than seeking to scrap valid articles from non western/ non Anglosphere country topics which are inevitably harder to source but no less notable).
Anyway, this is clearly a major regional cricket ground in Nepal. Sources make clear it's one of the grounds for the major cricket tournament in the country. The article is substantially developed. Yes it needs more sources but the source cited is independent and provides good material. If our friend who put this forward for deletion wanted to do something more useful with their time, he/she could readily add additional sources from independent professional cricketing sites which can be readily found on Google. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atrapalhado (talk • contribs) 23:42, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Some sources will speak of a big 6, others of a big 3: this is arbitrary and very fleeting. Unthinkable to many to suggest that Matthieu van der Poel is not part of the biggest n riders at the moment. A few years ago there was an entirely different top few riders, in 5 years these guys won't be winning any more. Nothing of lasting relevance: this is a no more than a questionable snapshot of standings in the sport right now. Kevin McE (talk) 22:22, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- I understand there are probably one-off cases of sources using "Big N" to discuss random groups of riders, but considering there are multiple independent sources (e.g. [11] [12]) that define the term (not just mentioning it in passing), there are articles that discuss inclusion in the group (Is Remco Evenepoel Part of Pro Cycling’s ‘Big Four’?), and sources that refer to coverage of the group ([13] references "the much-talked about 'Big Four'"), I think this rises beyond an "arbitrary" grouping.
- There has been usage of the term for this specific group of riders for nearly a year and a half (since December 2023), and frequent usage by many different organizations since the 2024 Tour de France, which I feel is more than "very fleeting". It would be a different conversation if I had created this article immediately after the 2024 Tour, but considering usage has continued and frequently appears in articles and previews for 2025 events (for example, these two previews for the 2025 Giro d'Italia starting this weekend both mention the Big Four: [14] [15]).
- Mathieu van der Poel is not a GC contender for stage races, which is likely why he is not included in this grouping, which the article (and quoted sources) make clear is about success in stage races and Grand Tours, not a general group of "top riders" Verylongandmemorable (talk) 22:52, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Already commented but just wanted to add: I think the argument that "in 5 years these guys won't be winning any more" conflicts with WP:CRYSTALBALL. Whether or not these riders are successful in the future, the term is widely used currently and has been defined since 2023. Assuming that it will be forgotten is not a prediction we are able to confidently make (and IMO is a bold prediction considering 3 of the 4 riders are 28 years old or younger) Verylongandmemorable (talk) 23:27, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Multiple reliable sources are included in the article, specifically referring to the term Big Four.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22] Please provide sources to support the claims of Big 6, Big 3, et cetera. Flibirigit (talk) 22:54, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. As per above, there are multiple independent reliable sources which reference "Big Four" in cycling, and no sources have been provided to the contrary. Flibirigit (talk) 23:05, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Big 6: [23], [24], [25], [26], [27], [28] and many more [29]
- Big 5: Not as common, but drop in form of Wout van Aert (one of the six) will probably make it more common in the future [30]
- Big 3: [31], [32]
- Previous big four: [33], [34]
- Phrase is incredibly flexible and transient: a journalistic device but not a meaningful and lasting concept. Kevin McE (talk) 07:10, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- I appreciate the additional sources to consider. However, there's a significant difference in coverage between the "Big N" examples you've provided, and usage of "Big Four" to refer to the grouping of Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglic. It isn't just used within cycling media, but in mainstream, highly reliable sources, for example:
- New York Times (via The Athletic): "INEOS Grenadiers have none of the sport’s big four on their books — Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic — who are currently the only men realistically able to win the Tour de France."
- The Independent: "And with three of the so-called ‘Big Four’ absent from the race, the door appears wide open for Roglic to regain the crown he won two years ago ... It’s hard to look past Roglic taking home the pink jersey given he’s the only member of the so-called ‘Big Four’ who’ll ride in Italy."
- The Guardian: "Pogacar, one of cycling’s “big four” stage race riders – Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic are the other three"
- Also, I'm a bit unclear on why the existence of a "Big Six" of cycling or "Big Three of the Classics" would negate the notability of this specific "Big Four" as an encyclopedic topic. The sources referenced in this discussion and in the article clearly delineate this quartet and their domain (stage races such as Grand Tours). As an analogy, if in men's tennis there was a future "Big Two" or "Big Six" that received significant coverage, would that erase the notability of the Big Three (tennis)? It could be worth noting in the article that a previous quartet of riders was referred to as the Big Four, but the articles you have sent are from 2015, so confusion with the current, widely discussed grouping of Pogacar, Vingegaard, Evenepoel, and Roglic is unlikely. The current "Big Four" has seen consistent definition and coverage for the last year and a half. Verylongandmemorable (talk) 17:01, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- The point of mentioning the Froome/Quintana/Contador/Nibali top 4 is to give evidence that this is just a temporary grouping, as there have been in the past and will be in the future.
- In the tennis example, there might be grounds for saying that they are historically all historically great players (I don't really follow that sport): but by what grounds are Vingegaard and Evenepoel being positioned as historical greats in relation to grand tours?
- I acknowledge that it is a phrase used by journalists, but that does not mean that it is a concept of any durability or lasting significance. In the time I watched soccer there have been numerous different permutations described as the big 4 of English clubs: Everton used to be among them, Man City certainly weren't. Lazy journalistic phrases describing a short-lived status quo make very poor justification for encyclopaedic entries. Kevin McE (talk) 18:08, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Mainly take a look at these: ankakh.com and westernarmeniatv.com (English documentary of the same is here). There are many more citations if you search his name in Armenian. I stopped looking as I have found enough. I have also greatly expanded the article and his bio.Mysecretgarden (talk) 03:09, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

- Moderated BS world Cup Was nominated for Soccer League hall of fame for time with Beach Socer USA national team. According to the Wikipedia page for the 2012 Mundialito de Clubes, a player named “Gil” scored in two separate matches for Vasco da Gama. futsal, a sport with even less media coverage, has documented his national participation as well, as shown in this 2010 report from FutsalPlanet. This supports notability under WP:NATHLETE, which considers athletes who have competed at the highest level of their sport, including international representation. (sourcing for wiki page is needed, research can be done - and found). Wq4m820 (talk) 14:39, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- The problem is that none of these sources are independent or provide in-depth coverage of him. Svartner (talk) 23:06, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:NATHLETE, SIGCOV is not required in the same manner as WP:GNG. That's Policy. Notability is established by participation at the highest level of competition, including international representation. Oscar Gil’s involvement with the U.S. national beach soccer team and participation in major international tournaments clearly meets this criterion. While stronger independent sourcing would be ideal (and can be worked on accordingly), the current evidence satisfies WP:NATHLETE’s standards for retaining the article. The article should provide reliable sources showing that the subject meets the general notability guideline.
JTtheOG (talk) 07:34, 24 May 2025 (UTC) - @Wq4m820, please actually read WP:NSPORTS. All subjects must meet GNG, and all biographies of sportspeople are required to cite an IRS SIGCOV source. JoelleJay (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Upon rereading WP:NATHLETE in full, I recognize that significant coverage from at least one independent, reliable source is still required. I maintain that Gil’s international participation aligns with the competitive notability standard, but absent a SIGCOV source at this time. If deletion proceeds, I’d support userfication so the article can be improved for a future resubmission. Wq4m820 (talk) 16:18, 24 May 2025 (UTC)

WP:NOTNEWS, racist and violent football-related riots which happen sadly quite often. Can perhaps be a short paragraph in some other article, don't know where though, but not enough to be a separate article. - Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Crime, Discrimination, Football, and Belgium. Fram (talk) 15:48, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
Keep – the article does not describe just another hooligan riot, but a case of significant socio-political unrest in Belgium. 80 people were injured, including children, policemen and a man with serious gunshot wounds. this is very unusual. there have been many political reactions at national level and official commemorations. several foreign media have covered these events, including in France (RMC Sport, La Dépêche, So Foot), Spain (Diario AS) and the Netherlands (NOS), which demonstrates international notability of these events. the argument that we don't yet know whether this will have a lasting impact doesn't hold water, because the impact is already there, widely covered by reliable secondary sources. --GloBoy93 (talk) 16:20, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep Somewhat ref-bombed, however I've read some of the French articles, this seems like a notable event. There are multiple issues with the article and its structure. The article needs renaming. - Merge short summary to R.S.C. Anderlecht–Club Brugge KV rivalry This needs a serious edit to summarize what happened and it's well into TOOLONG territory (neighboring countries mentioning the event in rundown form is unremarkable, especially in the EU), and it can be summarized there as just a mention of the club's hooligans taking things too far. I certainly do not want it deleted, but if the article target is inappropriate I can switch it, no issue. Nathannah • 📮 00:44, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

The article seems to be AI generated as many others by this user and half of the links are not properly functioning. The only working, possibly independent source is WFLX, and it's not clear that it is sufficiently independent or deep coverage in any case. C679 03:54, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

- Possible keep: The sources from WFLX and WPTV references are duplicates, but still count as one independent reliable source for GNG. The six sources from the university do not contribute, and the hockeywriters source is only a passing mention. Flibirigit (talk) 14:17, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep (with work) - Article can be improved and rewritten. WPTV/WFLX source is good. Yahoo Sports source adds to notability but comes from those above. * trvial mention here in larger reading on Florida collegiate hockey. * UPress, independent from the hockey club itself and adds independent coverage. Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 01:50, 21 May 2025 (UTC)- Delete Not finding much significant coverage of the player in reliable sources. Significant coverage is only in a hockey blog. There is certainly difficulty in searching Hungarian sources, but thus far my search has been unsuccessful.
- Here is a quick assessment of the sources in the article (note: I am relying on google translate for these). Not sure if this will change your mind @Flibirigit:
- 1,4,8,10,11,12 are from a hockey blog and are not reliable
- 2: About national team, not player. Reisz only mentioned in roster list.
- 3: Only appears in roster list
- 5: Routine game coverage mentioning Reisz goal
- 6: Routine game coverage that mentions Reisz
- 7: Page not found
- 9: Behind paywall; most likely source for establishing notability
- 13: Only appears in roster list
- Given there is only one potentially reliable, in-depth source this article should be deleted as it doesn't meet WP:GNG or WP:ANYBIO. Anonrfjwhuikdzz (talk) 02:20, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

- Delete This article is a hodgepodge collection of information that fails to show why its subject is notable. Rank and martial arts halls of fame have never been considered to show WP notability, youtube is not a reliable source, and notability isn't inherited from students (who also don't appear WP notable). Discussions of belt ranks, training videos, and tournaments he didn't compete in also fail to show notability and are irrelevant. At a minimum, this article needs a complete rewrite and likely could be salted without WP losing anything. The vanity and COI aspects of this page are overwhelming. - Comment Bow does meet WP:NMMA, though I don't know how fightmatrix's ranking system works. He beat 6 unranked opponents when he started to get to #6 and finished 1-5 again top 20 fighters. I don't think that one article in a local paper about him winning a minor event qualifies as the multiple, independent, reliable sources mentioned at WP:GNG nor does he meet WP:ANYBIO. I also grant that there may be more coverage of him that hasn't yet been found. Normally I'd default to the view that meeting WP:NMMA is sufficient, but in this case I think I'll abstain. Papaursa (talk) 23:59, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, the guy didn't really beat anyone, has one article in a local paper from before he was a pro, but for whatever reason meets this weird criteria of having been ranked in the top ten at a time when his weight class barely existed, so he barely passes one of the criteria for NMMA... weird. - Keep There is no indication that @Vanderwaalforces did even a cursory WP:BEFORE search in Japanese WP:NOENG or is competent enough in Japanese to do so. Just the first page of Japanese results include a full-length feature in Motorsport Magazine (which while partially an interview passes for notability), Auto Sport coverage of his Honda Racing School scholarship (also in Chinichi Shimbun), another full feature in JSport, along with regular coverage of his race results. DCsansei (talk) 04:44, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- @DCsansei Ah, I surely I’m not Japanese neither do I speak the language; so, thank you so much for pointing to those sources. I checked them, and the machine translations I used were pretty competent in giving me an English version; they, I mean all the sources your mentioned, do not contribute to adding a substance of notability for the subject. Winning a school championship does not count in itself at all, and having sources that either fail WP:INDEPENDENT or WP:SIGCOV do not help too. @JTtheOG thoughts? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:19, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment - This seems like a borderline case from a WP:GNG perspective, although Formula Four drivers are rarely notable. - Thfeeder (talk) 04:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Thfeeder I’m sorry, but your !vote is baseless in terms of policy as it applies to notability, which is what I am questioning in the first place. You’re telling me I do not have competence in Japanese but you’re not bringing any source to justify your stance. If you are competent, please bring the sources and let us evaluate, that is what AfD is about, not to caste aspersions indirectly. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:56, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify - I am going to mostly agree with HumanBodyPiloter5 here. It may well be borderline, but we are not at GNG on the sourcing presented so far. The reports that he will participate in FIA is routine announcements of the kind that every racer will get. These are not independent of the subject, because the announcement is not independent, regardless of who repeats it. It is technically primary news reporting, and also excluded on that basis. This can't be used to demonstrate notability on its own. If we accepted this then all F4 drivers would be automatically notable, and there is no consensus for that. So what we need are sources that independently cover the subject. It may also be WP:TOOSOON in that he is much more likely to be notable should he win races. Is there a suitable redirect target? If there is no suitable redirect, then I would suggest we draftify this new page (and this is my !vote for now). We have no evidence of notability, but we have at least the possibility that a deep search in Japanese searches will yield more, and also that he may do well and thus see more coverage. Equally, a very real possibility there are no better sources right now. But if the page creator of this new page can find sources, they could submit through AFC when they have been found. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:30, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment I continue to believe the GNG threshold is met for this article given the three separate sources I've provided. I'm also disappointed by the comment in the relist suggesting that a competent native-language WP:BEFORE is unnecessary. That would only make Wikipedia's systematic-bias problem worse. That said, if editors don't feel that the subject currently merits his own article, I suggest a merge to 2025 F4 Japanese Championship. DCsansei (talk) 05:40, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

I urge nominator to do a complete search in Japanese before nominating (or leave the nominating of Japanese articles to those who can evaluate Japanese sources). DCsansei (talk) 04:54, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- Again, I surely I’m not Japanese neither do I speak the language; so, thank you so much for pointing to those sources. I checked them, and the machine translations I used were pretty competent in giving me an English version; they, I mean all the sources your mentioned, do not contribute to adding a substance of notability for the subject. Do you mind pointing me to what point in WP:NMOTORSPORT does Umegaki pass? I’d appreciate it. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:27, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- WP:NMOTORSPORT is a broad indicator of what's considered notable. It's not an exhaustive list and shall not be used as a disqualifier. WP:GNG matters. MSport1005 (talk) 08:10, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- GNG is in fact not met here also. Do you remember what it says about independent reliable sources that covers the subject substantially? These three parameters need to be met for GNG to be satisfied, it isn’t the case here. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 09:01, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
- If you're unable to conduct a thorough WP:BEFORE search in Japanese, you're unable to make an early judgement on whether coverage exists. You've stated your case. Now please leave it to others. I'm waiting before casting a !vote for the same reason. MSport1005 (talk) 22:30, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

- Comment, leaning delete unless further evidence of notability emerges - Seems like a possible case of WP:ONEEVENT, but I'd need to see evidence of a more thorough Japanese-language WP:BEFORE search before committing to a delete vote. I do, however, find it highly implausible that a driver at this stage of their career would meet the WP:GNG. Neither Formula Four nor Formula Regional are particularly high profile categories (I would personally consider them to be the fifth and sixth tiers of single-seater racing) and drivers who compete in them are rarely notable. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 08:08, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Keep. No indication that a WP:BEFORE search was conducted in Japanese or that the nominator is competent enough in Japanese to do so. What DCsansei said is correct, and I agree with the statement made before. Thfeeder (talk) 04:55, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thfeeder I’m sorry, but your !vote is baseless in terms of policy as it applies to notability, which is what I am questioning in the first place. You’re telling me I do not have competence in Japanese but you’re not bringing any source to justify your stance. If you are competent, please bring the sources and let us evaluate, that is what AfD is about, not to caste aspersions indirectly. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:58, 17 May 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify. May be WP:TOOSOON. Not really notable from the sources in the article. Not enough for a stand alone article. Ramos1990 (talk) 05:03, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Draftify per Ramos1990. Does not meet WP:GNG and at this early stage in their career, very unlikely a deep search in Japanese sources would yield anything. However the page is new, as is the career. If there is early success the sources could follow, so draftify or redirect are suitable WP:ATDs. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 08:24, 19 May 2025 (UTC)

Relisting comment: Any more support for ATD?
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, — Benison (Beni · talk) 02:49, 20 May 2025 (UTC) - Draftify. If Japanese editors think they can find sufficient coverage, or believe it will appear in the near future, they can work on it in draft. JoelleJay (talk) 03:33, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- Comment I continue to believe the GNG threshold is met for this article so my !vote is unchanged, and I continue to object to deletion where the nominator has not shown that they've completed a competent native-language WP:BEFORE. That said, if a consensus against keep develops, I suggest considering a merge to 2025 F4 Japanese Championship as an ATD. DCsansei (talk) 05:44, 21 May 2025 (UTC)
