Texture
Texture refers to the visual or tactile surface quality of an artwork. Physical texture can be felt, while visual texture can only be implied. Impasto is a painting technique using thick layers of paint to build texture. Texture is created through changes in value or the repetition of shapes and lines, allowing artists to represent different materials like Van Gogh's thick paint or Lichtenstein's comic imagery.
