That Thunderbolts* (and yes, the movie explains that asterisk) emerges as one of the MCU’s most successful team-up movies is its own victory, considering that the team in question is made up of a collection of sidekicks, oddballs, and losers, mostly culled from lesser-known Marvel movies and even TV shows.
Although it’s hard to shake the sense that on a practical level this studio is just scraping the bottom of the barrel, desperately hoping their minor characters can be converted into headliners, they’ve done a damn good job of it.

A funny-but-tortured femme-fatale performance from Florence Pugh as Russian assassin Yelena Belova, brutal and tactile fights and a merciful lack of confusing backstory makes for the most enjoyable MCU entry in a while.
This might be the funniest cast Disney has ever assembled in the MCU. Every character plays off the others wonderfully, giving the whole movie the kind of chemistry that the franchise hasn’t had since the original Avengers.
Thunderbolts* is the most solid the sacred timeline has felt in a little while, providing an adventure befitting its overlooked title characters. While it very capably dabbles in a darker tone – touching on the mental health of heroes and villains alike – the filmmakers struggle to balance that dabbling with a snappy, comedic energy. While the movie as a whole left me feeling like it was a downer on the balance, it’s at least the good kind of downer, filled with characters I’m looking forward to seeing again.
Thunderbolts* works best as a jokey romp at home to tolerable quips amid mounting chaos.
While Florence Pugh and David Harbour try to inject some soul into the chaos, the film proves that no amount of punchlines can save a story that forgot its superpower. Sometimes you don’t need a group hug—you need a good old-fashioned throwdown.
Though I'm going to be honest the quality of MCU movies have started to go down,this made me enjoy the art of cinema itself.
I found myself laughing a lot during the movie. It's almost representative of how a friend group can be no matter the situation. Each character showed their flaws and how they coped with it, sorry Taskmaster... But it hit a movie itch that was missing in previous entries of the MCU

To many the film trailers looked like Marvel's version of the suicide squad. It's not that. It's more another avengers/guardians movie than a dark anti-hero movie. It's an ok Marvel film that suffers from having too many characters that have had little build up/past character development/reason to care about them and a poor ending. It's not the worst Marvel film that's been released over the past 3 years but it's also far from the greats that they released pre-2020. It's worth watching if you're still invested in the MCU. Personally there's been so many bad Marvel content these past few years that I struggled to care about it or the characters, so that may have affected my enjoyment.

Thunderbolts is a missed opportunity for the MCU. Despite a promising lineup of anti-heroes, the film suffers from poor pacing, weak character development, and lackluster action. The plot feels disjointed, with team dynamics barely explored beyond surface-level banter. Characters like Yelena and Bucky are underutilized, reduced to one-liners and clichés. The film’s tone swings wildly, making it hard to take its stakes seriously. For what should have been a bold, gritty departure from typical Marvel fare, Thunderbolts lands as forgettable and uninspired. Not the shake-up fans were hoping for.

Why do I still go to these useless Marvel movies? They're continual disappointments and this one is no exception. It merges the misfit angle of “Guardians of the Galaxy” with previous Avengers concepts. The new group of lesser superheroes ends up banding together against a greater force (of course). The ensemble includes Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan with David Harbour providing some gruff humor. As the smiling villain, the bemused presence of Julia Louis-Dreyfus is always welcome. Lewis Pullman makes a charming new character, although the mental health theme that emerges is really too trendy and too much. What happened to the heroes who kicked ass with impunity? The expected action scenes are unmemorable and the dialogue seldom adds much wit. Marvel fans will probably welcome the opportunity for this new group, but I found it a lukewarm rehash of what’s come before. (Of course, there’s a post-credit scene that promises a sequel.)
