ICGEB Awareness Workshops provide information and advice on how to apply for different ICGEB activities (grants, fellowships, meetings and courses).
Workshops held to date include Cuba, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Montenegro, Romania, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, additional workshops have taken place online with ICGEB Member States Afghanistan, Angola, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Djibouti, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Türkiye, Sri Lanka (focusing on CRPs), Sudan, Syria, Trinidad & Tobago and Zimbabwe.
Awareness Workshops are conducted by Lawrence Banks, ICGEB Director-General, Emanuele Buratti, ICGEB Scientific Coordinator and Luiz Zerbini, Director, Cape Town Component, together with Marianna Maculan, Chief, External Relations, and in collaboration with ICGEB’s Appointed Governors and Liaison Officers in the hosting country. The workshops aim to provide an opportunity for local scientists to learn directly about ICGEB’s programmes and possibilities for funding. They are also a forum where ICGEB is receptive to the countries’ specific priorities, including collecting feedback from member states and allowing for innovation in future programmes.
The workshops, which on average involve between 30 and 80 participants, also explain the criteria that are important for successful applications. They have proven not only highly popular but also extremely successful in raising the number and quality of the applications received by ICGEB, as well as increasing engagement with our Member States.
