Recent results show that ICGEB grants remain an important programme to improve science. The CRP programme stimulates collaborative research between ICGEB Member States and the component laboratories; promotes the training of young scientists, and facilitates the creation of appropriate research facilities.
Support is provided for research projects in the fields of basic science, human healthcare, industrial and agricultural biotechnology, and environmental bioremediation through a yearly call for applications.
The Collaborative Research Grant Programme has been running since 1988, and to date, 689 projects have been funded in 60 countries. Currently, 132 projects are ongoing in 49 countries (and 37 CRP grants selected for award in 2024).
In 2025, a total of 648 proposals have been received, 200 more than in 2024, from 54 countries, and 175 have progressed to the next phases of the review process. The results of the call (closing date 30 April) will be available towards the end of the year.

“The Programme has become extremely competitive over the years,” comments Dr. Banks, ICGEB Director-General, adding: “A major strategic goal of the ICGEB is to reach and maintain the funding threshold of at least 10%, which in net terms means raising approximately an extra one million Euro per year.”

How can you help?
ICGEB support projects that drive innovation adapted to local needs, like Lucy Enset: a woman-led company that produces Enset flour and baked products in Ethiopia.
