Powder Valley is pleased to announce that MONEP (Missouri Nature and Environmental Photographers) is our October Featured Artist! MONEP members share their passion for photography, nature and the environment in every photo they take. "Whispers of Autumn, Echoes of Winter" reflects the artistic vision of nineteen members of the MONEP group. Photography displayed was taken in both Missouri and Illinois.

After finding painted rocks around Jefferson City, Janet Bonnot joined the JC Rocks movement in 2018. Her nature-inspired rock work is on display in the west wing hallway through December 2025. No registration required. All ages

Quilts and other projects created by Nature’s Needlers participants from their monthly quilt block designs will be on display at Runge Conservation Nature Center September 9 through October 31. Come admire these beautiful, impressive works of art and celebrate the creativity behind each piece. No registration required. All ages

Discover what’s for dinner at Burr Oak Woods as the nature center’s amphibians, fish, and turtles enjoy their feast every Tuesday and Friday. The snakes are fed on the second and fourth Wednesday (October 8 & 22).

Looking for assistance with getting your firearms ready for deer season? Come to Jay Henges Shooting Range for sight-in assistance. We will have staff on site to help bore sight your scope or assist with dialing in your sights to your desired distance.

NOTE: WE WILL NOT BE PROVIDING FIREARMS OR AMMUNITION. Please bring along the firearm and ammunition you plan to deer hunt with.

Take a walk in Willmore Park to discover native flora and fauna, explore local stories, and experience the benefits of outdoor activity—including improved physical health, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

Established in 1947, this park along the southern border of St. Louis City offers a mix of trees and lakes along a winding path. This walk will showcase the work being done with MDC partner St. Louis City Parks. This walk will be approximately 1.5 miles.

Meet our naturalist at the Trail Among the Trees Trailhead (in front of the restrooms) for a social hike. We will explore Rockwoods across the seasons, identify plants and wildlife, and build community along the way! Hikes are short but can be steep. Dress and prepare for the weather. All ages welcome!

Come hang with us at Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery where we will dive into the mysterious world of our flying mammals! We will uncover the secrets of how bats eat, how they navigate the night, and what makes them so important. Ages 3-6; Registration required.

Take advantage of the early out day for Saint Joseph School District to Discover Nature with fishing. The public will have the opportunity to catch and release fish from 2:00-6:00 pm on October 24th at Corby Pond. This is a come and go style event. Staff will be present to provide assistance to beginner anglers. Basic rods, tackle, and bait will be provided for free, but participants may bring their own gear if preferred. Participants should bring water, snacks, and all other needed personal items. We will be near shelter and restroom facilities. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
