Faye A. Chadwell

Dean, University Libraries and Scholarly Communications

 

Faye A. Chadwell was appointed the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communications on March 1, 2021. Prior to this appointment she had served as the Donald and Delpha Campbell University Librarian at Oregon State University and held positions at the University of Oregon Libraries as well as the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

With more than 500 full-time faculty and staff, Dean Chadwell leads the University Libraries, the Penn State University Press, Media and Technology Support Services, and the University Records Management Program. She provides direction and leadership to create and implement the University Libraries’ strategic plan and advance the Libraries’ global reputation as a top research library.

Dean Chadwell’s professional associations have spanned several divisions within the American Library Association (ALA): the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (1995–2020), the Library Leadership and Management Association (2010–20), and Association of College and Research Libraries (since 2011). She also has held leadership positions within the ALA Rainbow Round Table; the Oregon Library Association; and two academic library consortia—the Orbis Cascade Alliance and the Greater Western Library Alliance. She also has served on executive steering committees for SPARC (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) and for the Western Regional Storage Trust and was elected to the ACRL Board of Directors (2018-22). Presently she is the chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Association of Research Libraries.

Dean Chadwell holds an B.A. and M. A. in English from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and an MLS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.


 

Leadership Team

The Libraries Administrative Leadership Team (Admin Team) is the leadership group of the University Libraries. Membership consists of the Dean of University Libraries and Scholarly Communication, Associate Deans, the Senior Director of Administrative and Financial Services, and the Libraries Human Resources Strategic partner. Team members use their individual knowledge, strengths, and perspectives to provide leadership and advocate for the entire Libraries organization. The team works collaboratively and collectively in leading the Libraries. The members of the Admin Team:

  • Work collaboratively to provide vision and direction for the research, teaching, and service mission of the Libraries.
  • Help implement the Libraries’ strategic plan, support institutional goals and build a strong culture of engagement and shared decision making.
  • Participate in the Libraries’ key planning, budget, operations, and personnel decision-making activities.
  • Facilitate cross-organizational communication while fostering a culture of transparency and shared decision making.
  • Represent the Libraries with donor relations and fundraising with leadership and development teams within the libraries.
  • Participate in University initiatives and represent the Libraries in University-wide planning and administration and in local, regional, and national arenas.

Head of Library Assessment

Steve Borrelli is Head of the Library Assessment Department at Penn State University Libraries, where he leads efforts in strategic planning, data analytics, and user engagement.

Associate Dean for Distinctive Collections and Digital Strategies

This portfolio stewards Penn State’s unique collections of archives, research data, publications, and research services, while also providing the infrastructure and expertise needed to ensure their accessibility through policies, standards, hardware, software, and web services. In fulfilling this role, the portfolio advances the University Libraries’ values of equity of access, sustainability, and organizational excellence.

Jennie Knies

Associate Dean for Commonwealth Campus Libraries

Jennie provides leadership, strategic direction, and support for the Commonwealth Campus Libraries (CCLs). Penn State University Libraries consists of one unified system dispersed across more than a dozen campuses and online programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Commonwealth Campus Libraries provide library resources to a geographically dispersed, primarily undergraduate, user population.

Nonny Schlotzhauer

Head of Social Sciences and Education

Acquisitions Services is responsible for acquiring library materials needed to support the educational and research mission of Penn State University. The work of the department includes the acquisition, receipt, and management of physical materials including print, DVD, microfilm, microfiche, and other external media, as well as the acquisition, licensing, and access management of electronic resources including databases, electronic journals, electronic books, data sets, and other electronic media, as well as administering the Libraries' collections budget.

Rebecca Miller Waltz

Associate Dean for Learning and Engagement

As Associate Dean for Learning & Engagement at Penn State University Libraries, Rebecca leads strategic initiatives that enhance the student experience and promote equitable learner success. She collaborates across the University to align the Libraries’ programs with institutional teaching and learning priorities, ensuring our services support evolving academic needs. Through partnerships and innovation, she helps position the Libraries as a vital contributor to student achievement and engagement.

Mikala Andino-Dockter (she/her)

Executive Assistant to the Dean

As Executive Assistant to the Dean of the University Libraries and Scholarly Communications, Mikala Andino-Dockter provides high-level administrative leadership, guiding operations, communications, and strategic initiatives within the Dean’s Office. She oversees staff management, executive scheduling, and academic administrative processes to support the Libraries’ mission and goals.

 

 

 

Erik Fasick

Administrative Assistant

Erik serves as an Administrative Assistant supporting several University Libraries departments, including the Libraries Administration Dean’s Office, Library Learning Services, Teaching and Learning with Technology, and the Special Collections Library. He assists with scheduling University Park Libraries spaces through 25Live and helps coordinate instructional and outreach events such as the Libraries Open House and De-Stress Fest.

 

 

 

Audrey McGovern (she/they)

Administrative Assistant

Audrey serves as an Administrative Assistant in the University Libraries Dean’s Office, where she works closely with the Executive Assistant to the Dean to support Libraries Administration operations. She provides specialized support for faculty affairs processes and assists with academic administrative functions across the Libraries. Audrey also provides direct support to the Associate Dean for Learning and Engagement and the Associate Dean for Commonwealth Campus Libraries.

Makenna serves as an Administrative Assistant in the University Libraries Dean’s Office, where she provides essential administrative and operational support. She plays a key role in faculty and staff recruitment processes and works closely with the Executive Assistant to the Dean to ensure the smooth functioning of the Libraries Administration Office. Makenna also provides direct support to the Associate Dean for Distinctive Collections and Digital Strategies and the Senior Director of Administrative and Financial Services.
