Alesssandro Ottaviano de Medici was born on 2 June 1535 in Florence and died on 27 April 1605 in Rome, Papal States. He was from the Florentine house of Medici. Son of Francesca Salviati and Ottaviano de Medici.

He was ordained a priest on 22 July 1567 by Antonio Altoviti and consecrated a bishop in March 1573 by Francisco Pacheco de Villena (Toledo). He was created a cardinal on 12 December 1583 by Pope Gregory XIII. [1]
