Still Life in Full Color
Project 3
Painting 1 – Spring 2018
This project will involve creating one still life painting, at least 18x24”.
You will paint from life – not a photograph. We will set up our still life
as a group – but I encourage you to bring in your own objects, so that
we will have more objects to choose from!
Paul Cezanne Giorgio Morandi
Take care in composing your image: choose a spot near the still life
where you can see clearly the objects you decide to paint. Zoom in to
create a more interesting composition – but not so much that the
painting becomes abstracted. You must have at least 4-6 objects visible
in your painting.
The first layer will be a monochromatic under-painting – this will look
similar to what we did in project two. The 2nd-3rd layers will be applied
in full color, and will completely cover the grisaille under-painting.
Students are asked to use what they have learned about paint
application and mixing techniques.
Your still life painting should bring
together an understanding of:
DEPTH
PERSPECTIVE
VALUE
FORM
A painting that contains all of these
elements can take on many forms, so
make the piece your own.
