WHAT IS COLOR?
Color is a sensation produced by the human eye and
nervous system.
COLOR MODELS
Color model is an orderly system for creating a whole ranges
of color from a small set of primary color.
A color model is also a way to turn colors into numbers with
a mathematical formula.

TYPES OF COLOR MODEL
ADDITIVE COLOR MODEL……..
Additive color is color created by mixing a
number of different light colors, with shades
of red, green, and blue.
Example of additive color model is RGB
Model
RGB model contains primary colors.
primary colors are:
 Red
 Green
 Blue
SUBTRACTIVE COLOR MODEL……..
A subtractive color model explains the
mixing of a limited set of paint pigments to
create a wider range of colors.
Example of subtractive color model is CMY
Model.
CMY model contain secondary color.
Secondary colors are:
Red + Blue =Magenta
Green +Blue = Cyan
 Red + Green = Yellow
RGB COLOR MODEL……..
PROPERTIES OF RGB COLOR
SYSTEM……
* Additive color model.
* For computer displays.
* Uses light to display color.
* Colors result from transmitted light.
* Red + Green + Blue = White.
RGB REPRESENTATION……
We can imagine the RGB as a 3-dimensions .
RGB is our Goal from
 Now to the end.
Actually RGB is three
 layers behind each
 other but just for
 imagining .
RGB COLOR MODEL……..
The RGB Color Model
If R,G, and B are represented with 8 bits (24-bit RGB
image), the total number of colors is (28 )3=16,777,216
NUMERIC REPRESENTATIONS
Notation RGB triplet
Arithmetic (1.0, 0.0, 0.0)
Percentage (100%, 0%, 0%)
Integer number (255, 0, 0)
IMPORTANCE OF RGB COLOR
MODEL……
 The color model RGB is used in hardware applications
like PC monitors, cameras and scanners,
 It is used for Web graphics, but it cannot be used for
print production.
 It directly reflects the physical properties of "True-
color" displays
APPLICATIONS OF RGB COLOR
MODEL……
It is used—
For sensory representation
Display of text images in electronic
system,
For example-Computer, T.V., Camera
CMY(K) MODEL……..
PROPERTIES OF CMY(K) COLOR
MODEL…….
* Subtractive color model.
* For printed material.
* Uses ink to display color.
* Colors result from reflected light.
* Cyan + Magenta + Yellow = Black.
CMY(K) MODEL…….
•Unit Cube defined on C, M & Y axes.
•A printed color that looks red absorbs
the other two components G and B and
reflects R.
•Thus the C-M-Y coordinates are just
the complements of the R-G-B
coordinates.

In additive color models such as RGB, white is the “additive” combination
of all primary colored lights, while black is the absence of light.
In the CMYK model, it is the opposite: white is the natural color of the
paper or other background, while black results from a full combination of
colored inks.

IMPORTANCE OF CMY COLOR
MODEL…….
 the CMY color model is used in color printers.
 It is created by the subtractive mode
 Used in most commercial color printing (books,
magazines, etc.)
APPLICATIONS OF CMY COLOR
MODEL…….
Used for hardcopy devices
Used to describe the printing process
Used in color printing
RGB VS. CMY MODEL…….
RGB is based on projecting but CMY
is based on ink.
RGB is used for projecting light but
CMY is used for reflecting light
RGB offers a much wider range of
colors than CMY
RGB scheme can produce colors that
are more vivid and vibrant.
