o You can’t imagine how important sketching is to an future
architect
o Without a sketch, an architect will fail to design something/a
project
o Produce basic idea
o Brainstorming/ Helps to come out with new idea
o Helps to modify their project/brief before process it
o Save a lot of time from escapism

o My process essay is about how to sketch a kitchen utensil
2ND PARAGRAPH
 SELECT YOUR CHOSEN MATERIAL
o Among all of the kitchen utensils, I have chosen frying pan as my
sketching object.
 USE YOUR FIVE SENSES IN DESCRIBING THIS MATERIAL
o Round surface
o It provide a curve so the ingredients can be put in and cook
o Long handle (avoid from burns and scalds)
o Kitchen utensils designer will always design it with colours at the
handle and bottom surface of the frying pan
o Frying pan comes with different function when they are in different
sizes
o Some of the frying pans are with two handle in the opposite side
o A hole at the end of the handle (able to hang it)
 HOW IS THIS MATERIAL USED IN EVERYDAY LIFE
o A frying pan plays an important role in our life. Everyone can live
without rice cooker, pot but not frying pan.
o A frying pan can be used to fry any type of food or even to cook a bowl
of soup
o In our daily life, we always use frying pan to fry eggs, rice, vegetables
and more.
 WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS MATERIAL
o I use it every time when I cook
o It is very useful and convenient
3RD & 4th PARAGRAPH
 To draw a frying pan, sketch book, art eraser, pencils are needed.
 HB and 2B pencils are mostly suggested
 The shading/light part of the frying pan should depends on the direction of
light comes from
 Shading part – inside the curve, Hole/round area at the handle (2B pencil)
 Light part – lineament of the curve (HB pencil)
 A large desk/clean workspace, quiet surrounding are required every time I
want to sketch
 Round surface/ Curve area are the most important part in shading
 The contour of frying pan will not be emerged if the shading/light part do
not do well
 Art eraser helps to improve the effect in shading/always makes the sketch
to stay in clean condition
 A large desk/clean workspace, quiet surrounding is required every time I
want to sketch
 Do not use normal eraser because it will mess up your sketch
easily/careless.
5th PARAGRAPH
 Sketching a frying pan spent me 1 hr because shading and lineament of
curve/round area is the hardest part to draw.
 Satisfaction comes deep from my heart once I have completed my sketch.
 Interesting/ learnt drawing technique/improved
 Will try to sketch other kitchenware (fork, spoon, micro oven etc.)
