Erickson’s Theory of
Psychosocial Development
Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development is one of
the best-known theories of personality in psychology.
Erikson believed that personality develops in a series of
stages and describes the impact of social experience across
the whole lifespan.
Erickson’s Theory of
Psychosocial Development
• One of the main elements of Erikson's psychosocial stage
theory is the development of ego identity. Ego identity is the
conscious sense of self that we develop through social
interaction. According to Erikson, ego identity is constantly
changing due to new experiences and information we acquire
in our daily interactions with others. As we face each new
stages of development, we face new challenge that can help
further develop or hinder the development of ego identity.
Using psychosocial
development in the classroom
• Tamara, 2010 para.1 stated that teachers who apply
psychosocial development in the classroom create an
environment where children feels appreciated and is
comfortable with learning new things and building
relationships with peers without a fear. Erickson theory at
different grade level will help students to mastery each
stage without any conflict.
