Growing up I was never much of a breakfast girl, always leaning towards a little sweet treat instead, be it a piece of cake, some biscuits or a flaky pastry to kick-start my morning (much to the dismay of my mum, I'm sure). When I travelled to Italy for the first time at 16 with my nonna, I discovered that I wasn't the only one who liked to indulge in sweets when breaking a fast. Turns out, a traditional Italian breakfast is usually small, sweet and based on baked goods and coffee. I had found my people.
