A Beginner's Guide to Using Heat Transfer Vinyl
I was asked recently about how to make HTV not so bulky and the answer is slicing and deleting those layers. In Cricut Design Space or Silhouette studio you want to create a puzzle of those layers so that your heat transfer vinyl is being ironed directly onto the fabric or blank you picked. This hopefully will make it last longer as well. Shirts I have made without this method tend to peel quickly. It may take a bit of testing and trial and error but by deleting any overlaying pieces in your design space before sending to your machine to be cut will help reduce any bulkiness you feel. My other suggestion not mentioned in the video: test out all different brands of HTV. Some are thinner! Stay crafty!

How to Work with Iron-ON (HTV) | Cut (Cricut), Weed, Transfer, Layer
Difficulty: Medium

Layering HTV or Heat Transfer Vinyl can be challenging for a beginner. Here are a few of my favorite tips to creating the perfect layered designs!

Avoid Moisture & Wrinkles
 • Prepress material

Avoid Over Heating
 • 300 (f) | 10 sec | med pressure
 • By pressing the design for less time this avoids overheating and SHRINKING the vinyl. Think of it this way: if we have 4 layers - pressing L1 for 10 seconds and so on through the layers. Once you have pressed L4, L1 has now been pressed for a TOTAL of 40 seconds.

Vinyl Products
 • HTV (iron-on vinyl)
 • Foil & holographic materials are not recommended for layered designs.

Use original graphic to determine layering order.
