 • Whole wheat grain 1 cup 200g
 • Barley 1/2 cup 100g
 • split chickpeas 1/4 cup 50g
 • split mung beans 1/4 cup 50g
 • split brown lentils 1/4 cup 50g
 • split black gram lentils 1/4 cup 50g
 • rice 1/4 cup 50g
 • oil 1/2 cup
 • onion 2 medium 300g
 • beef 1 kg
 • cinnamon 1 large stick
 • bay leaves 2
 • Salt 1.5 tbsp or to taste
 • coriander powder 2 tbsp
 • cumin powder 1 tbsp
 • red chilli 2 tbsp
 • all spices 1,5 tbsp
 • turmeric 3/4 tbsp
 • garlic cloves 12-15
 • ginger 2 inches piece

tarka:
 • oil 1/2 cup
 • half small Onion
 • serve with fried onion, coriander, green chilli, ginger, chaat masala and lemon juice

Don’t go by its looks, this porridge-like dish is a staple dish that can be found on any Emirati dinner table. This traditionally cooked food in Dubai is a symbol of unity and community, hence its authentic recipe continues to pass from one generation to another. It is made with a mixture of wheat and meat cooked for hours in a clay pot or underground oven until it gets the porridge-like texture. When ready it is served by topping some ghee, cinnamon, pistachio, and raisins. As the dish is packed with nutrition, Harees is a boon during the fasting months.
