After rallying sharply over the last month US equities pulled back heading into the long holiday weekend giving back a good portion of the post China détente rally. There were two primary drivers of that weakness a rise in long term sovereign yields following weak 20yr auctions in both Japan and the US and President Trump threatening to increase EU tariffs to 50% on Friday morning. There were positive developments on both fronts over the weekend which helped equity futures rally sharply overnight. After the open consumer confidence, which had been falling for months, came in well ahead of expectations helping equities extend to the upside.
