Kraken with Mariners jerseys

TORONTO — The Seattle Kraken wanted to let the baseball Mariners know they have support here in the hostile territory of Toronto.

In a sign of unity for all things Seattle, many Kraken players wore Mariners jerseys as they entered Scotiabank Arena for their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night.

Three hours later, they left the arena dressed the same way after a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory against the Maple Leafs in front of a capacity crowd of 18,589 and a coast-to-coast television audience in Canada.

The Mariners, of course, arrived in Toronto earlier in the day and will face the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday at Rogers Centre, which is just four blocks down the road from Scotiabank Arena. The Mariners lead the best-of-7 game series 3-2.

Kraken head coach Lane Lambert said the team wanted their baseball brothers to know they were behind them. To back up his words, he himself wore a Mariners jersey during his post-game press conference.

“I think it’s mutual,” Lambert said. “(Mariners first baseman) Josh Naylor supports us too. He was wearing our jersey after they won (the previous series) in the locker room.

“Again, it’s about our hometown, our fans and our city. I’ll say it again: Our city is a great sports town. We have great fans in every sport and we’re supporting them in the same way they support us.”
