Burnley boss Scott Parker on opponents Leeds United: "They are a very good team and we experienced that last year. They have a lot of quality and good intensity about their game. They have a brilliant manager in Daniel Farke, who has been there for some time now, and he has made a few changes to them this season.

"Dominic Calvert-Lewin is more of a focal point for them this season but, for the majority, we are going to face a similar team to the one we played against last year.

"We have been strong at home this year and last year. We are hugely competitive here and we need to continue that. It will be vital for us in terms of being successful in the Premier League this year."

  3. 'We have been a threat in our own way'published at 14:54 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker on how he intends to get more goals out of his group, after scoring only seven in their opening seven Premier League games: "I think that question was asked last year in the first 10 games of the Championship season. People were asking me that same question, asking me how I was going to get my team to score more goals, so it's just the process.

"We understand where we need to be and I think we have been a real threat in our own way. We've done what we needed to and we've honed in on our game dynamics to face what we've been up against.

"I understand that there may be games where we might not be that threat and it comes out that we've only had three shots, and that gets magnified."

  4. 'We need to keep learning and growing'published at 14:50 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker on whether his side have already given themselves a good opportunity to survive in the Premier League this season: "I think we've given ourselves a brilliant opportunity of achieving our objective of trying to stay in this division.

"I think it has been well-documented and we all know that this first lot of fixtures has been a tough lot. As a team that has only just come up to the Premier League, we have been faced with some huge challenges - arguably the top five teams in this division really.

"How competitive we've been in those matches has given me a huge amount of confidence. There's still a lot of learning though and we've fallen short a little bit at times, but not by wide margins.

"We need to keep learning and growing because we are a new team and a young team. We have lots of players that haven't really experienced the Premier League, so we need to get there as quick as we can."

  5. Amdouni and Beyer 'won't be in contention for the foreseeable'published at 14:47 BST 16 October

Burnley boss Scott Parker also provided injury updates on the Clarets' longer-term absentees:

On Zeki Amdouni's recovery from a cruciate ligament tear: "He is some time away. He is coming back from a more longer-term injury, so he is a little while away from full fitness.

"It's probably been a few months now since he had his surgery, so he is moving in the right direction but he will need some time."

On centre-back Jordan Beyer's hamstring injury: "He's had a little bit of a setback with his injury. I don't think it will be too long until he is back, but he probably also won't be in contention for the foreseeable."

  6. Foster injury 'better than initially thought' but Roberts suffers 'setback'published at 14:41 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker on Lyle Foster's fitness, after the forward withdrew from the South Africa national squad over the international break: "It's probably better news than we initially thought because it seems to be a dead leg.

"He has already travelled back and he will be in this afternoon. Our medical conversations are that we are hopeful he will be ready for this weekend. We will have to just see how he is when he comes in, manage that and see where we are tomorrow."

However, defender Connor Roberts has suffered a setback on his return from injury: "He will need a little longer to recover now. He's probably looking at a few months, which isn't ideal. It is a big setback for us, but hopefully he will come out the other end of that."

  8. Eddie Howe 'knows how to get into your head'published at 14:35 BST 16 October

    Ciaran Kelly

It is approaching four years since Eddie Howe was appointed as Newcastle United head coach.

The former Bournemouth manager took charge of a winless side in deep relegation trouble in November, 2021 - but went on to lead Newcastle to safety.

Howe has since ended the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy and taken Newcastle into the Champions League in two of the last three seasons.

And former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey recalled how “he knew how to get into your head”.

“He knew what player needed what,” he said. “Some players need an arm around their shoulder and some need a kick up the backside.

“What I liked about him was he showed interest in your personal life. The football side of it speaks for himself in how detailed he is but he doesn’t want you to just go out there and win a game – he wants to see you develop as a footballer.

“That goes out the window when you get into the professional game because everything becomes about three points, and rightly so because it brings you success. But he develops you.”

  9. Gordon continues England formpublished at 14:30 BST 16 October

Anthony Gordon might be the biggest beneficiary of Thomas Tuchel becoming England manager.

The Newcastle winger made his third successive England start in the 5-0 defeat of Latvia on Monday which saw Tuchel's side secure their place at next summer's World Cup.

The 24-year-old scored England's opener on the night, his second international goal.

Barring injury or an unexpected dip in form, Gordon looks set to play a key role in the United States, Mexico and Canada next summer.

  10. Wilson appointment must herald period of boardroom stabilitypublished at 14:25 BST 16 October

The transfer window may be shut.

But Newcastle United made a significant addition last week in the form of sporting director Ross Wilson, who arrived from Nottingham Forest.

The club had been operating without such a crucial figure since Paul Mitchell’s departure back in June.

Mitchell's exit was the latest chapter in a period of boardroom upheaval stretching back 18 months.

Former owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi moved on; Dan Ashworth, who was Mitchell’s predecessor, left to take up a role at Manchester United; and chief executive officer (CEO) Darren Eales had to step down after being diagnosed with chronic form of blood cancer.

However, just a few weeks after David Hopkinson’s arrival as CEO, Wilson has followed.

It felt instructive that the Scot spoke about how the "trust, cohesion and alignment we're building already feels strong" in his opening remarks.

Following so much change, upstairs, Newcastle need a period of stability as Wilson helps plot the club's medium to long-term strategy.

    Leeds United

Leeds manager Daniel Farke on maintaining team spirit despite making many summer signings:

"To be picky and careful about who you bring in, then to live the culture like a role model, not just me but the whole staff, to have this every day

"When something that goes in the wrong direction, maybe not punish publicly but words in private. I don't like vanity in our dressing rooms. There will be clear messages and words. If someone doesn't follow then you must act, because if there are no consequences you can't keep the culture.

"You have to be on it every day, because they are top players with big egos. You have to be strict if needed, it can't always be arm around the shoulder. Credit to them, it's not often during the season we have to do anything, they are exceptional and a joy to work with."

  13. 'We were a bit unlucky in terms of points so far'published at 14:08 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke on Leeds this season:

"I am happy with our development so far, we were a bit unlucky in terms of points.

"Over the course of the season in terms of being lucky or unlucky, it will be quite equal. I am sure we will win some points luckily at some point. But I hope we win some points deserved at the weekend! I expect a tight and competitive game [against Burnley]."

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke on the future of 17-year-old Harry Gray, who is drawing transfer interest: "I talk about business once business is done, that's one of my principles.

"Harry is out of training out of the moment, he needs a few more days, we'll be back in team training next week.

"Behind the scenes we are trying to build out squad for the future, do some business and do positive negotiations for players who attract us. We see a lot in him, we have spoken about this, I expect some positive news in the future.

"It makes sense if you announce a new contract to do it once the player is fit and available. I expect that not too far away we will have some positive news on players in our squad."

  16. 'The next four games is a more difficult period'published at 13:59 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke on if the next four games are easier because they are against lower-half teams:

"It doesn't matter where you win the points, you can also take points as an underdog against the top teams. In the end you have to be there with a one points average per team. I wouldn't label it as a easier period for us, it's the other way round.

"The last four games we've had excellent performances, would have deserved more points from those ganes. Solid performance level, and exactly the average of points we need per game. It could and should have been a bit more, we were unlucky. I would say the next four games is a more difficult period because we have three away games and just one at home."

  17. 'Burnley is definitely not a must-win game'published at 13:55 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke on if this is a must-win game:

"Games on a Premier League level are always big, all 38 games. You have to prepare like for a festive period for each and every game, if not you have no chance at Premier League level.

"It's definitely not a must-win game, it's an away game for a newly promoted side, you're always the underdog as a newly promoted side playing away.

"Last season Burnley had a fantastic season, 100 points, they were our two most difficult games last season, why should it be must-win now? We didn't win against them last season, and still managed to win the league with 100 points so it's definitely not must-win."

  18. Injury updates on Perri, Gnonto and Jamespublished at 13:51 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Willy Gnonto in action for LeedsImage source, Getty Images

More detail now from Daniel Farke on injury updates:

"The good news with Lucas Perri is he was able to train the last two weeks with us, he also used the international break to build up his fitness level.

"With Willy Gnonto he won't be able to be with us for this game. His calf issue is sorted, but he used the international beak to have a little hernia surgery so its not a major thing, but he will be back in team training next week and maybe available for next Friday (v West Ham, 24 October).

"Very positive news with Dan James becaues he is a little ahead of schedule with his rehab, so credit to our medical departerment and rehab coaches. He's been in training but not in contention for the starting line-up. He's in contention to be in the squad - I didn't expect this.

"Noah Okafor is struggling a bit with some abductor issues."

  19. Farke vague on team newspublished at 13:46 BST 16 October

Burnley v Leeds United (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Leeds United

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke on squad news:

"Today more or less the first time the players are all back together. Several players were able to return to the training pitch, others needed individual recovery sessions. We'll just have them all together tomorrow in the final session so it's a bit tricky to prepare, but we are used to it.

"We'll have to take some late decisions because of workload, knocks, late flights. We'll do that after our final session tomorrow afternoon before we travel to Burnley."

    Incredible, really.

Fun fact, I was at the game when Bournemouth were promoted from League Two and now look at them!

My team? Still in League Two, thanks for asking.

Anyway, I see you're from West Yorkshire, Phil.

Lovely segue then to Leeds boss Daniel Farke who is speaking now.

Bit of a clutch but we'll go with it.
