Kian Spence's second-half strike gave Rotherham their first win at Oakwell in more than 50 years as they beat Barnsley 1-0 in League One.

The Millers started the game poorly and Barnsley should have taken the lead in the second minute but David McGoldrick could only hit the post with his header from inside the box.

Barnsley came close again in the 35th minute through captain Luca Connell but his free-kick from the edge of the area was superbly tipped wide by Millers' goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.

Spence scored the winner for Matt Hamshaw's side in the 64th minute after hitting a superb 20-yard strike past Murphy Cooper in the Barnsley goal.

It was Rotherham's first win at Oakwell since 1970 and the result extended Barnsley's winless run in the league to five games.

The Millers are now just one point behind Barnsley in the table.
