about-bfdaIn 1971, a number of cine directors were assembled in Mujib Nagar of Meherpur district at the liberation period of Bangladesh. They formed a platform in the name of ‘Mukti Joddah Shilpi-Kola Kusholi Samity’ Zahir Raihan & Syed Hasan Imam was honored as president & general secretary of the same. Other cabinet members were Abdul Jabbar Khan, Khoshru Noman, Shubash Datta, Narayan Ghosh Mita, Alamgir Kabir, Abu Musa Deboo, Momtaj Ali, Arun Roy, Subal Das, Samar Das, Ajmal Huda Mithu, Raju Ahmed, A J Mintoo, Kabori, Iqram Bijoo including all other 133 artists & technicians. On behalf of this organization Zahir Raihan made his ever tribute “ Stop Genocide ‘’ which was screened all massacre of our innocent man and women by the Pakistani army. It helped to create the support to our liberation movement throughout the world. December 16, 1971 is our victory day. In 1973 an absolute directors association was formed. Syed Hasan Imam, Azizur Rahman & Chashi Nazrul was selected president, general secretary & treasurer respectively. But unfortunately this body was no longer existed.

The cinema of Bangladesh started flourishing & progressing itself. The Directors felt to be organized again. They formed a new independent organization again. They formed a new independent organization named Bangladesh film directors association BFDA on 29th December 1981 by a convening committee headed by Alamgir Kumkum & Amjad Hossain as convener & secretary respectively.

Till 1984, Bangladesh film directors association had no idea office. At the very beginning was sitting in a tea stall (KOBBADER DOKAN). Directors association performed their official activities in the canteen of BFDC. Akbar Kabir Pintoo the joint secretary had played a vital role to achieve the present permission in the name of ABDUL JABBAR KHAN PATHAGAR (Film Directors Study Room) where we are still exists.
