How long does the rechargeable battery run under normal use conditions?
The battery life for normal use is up to 6 hours.

Can the battery be changed? 
No, it cannot be changed. This is the only way to enable the WeTab’s flat form.

How large and how heavy is the WeTab?
The dimensions are 294 x 194 x 14mm with a weight of approx. 995g (approx. 1.020g for the WeTab 3G).

Does the WeTab have a touchscreen? 
The WeTab has a 11.6“ touchscreen with LED backlighting and a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels (29.46cm screen diagonal).

What output/input ports does the WeTab have? 
2 x USB, an integrated card reader for SD/ SDHC formats, an audio output port (plug), standard SIM card slot and HDMI (1.3b).

Can an external keyboard be connected? 
Yes, via USB, Bluetooth or the docking station.

What connection options does the WeTab have? 
Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, WLAN (802.11 b/g/n); the WeTab 3G also has UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz) and GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

Does the WeTab come in any other colors?
No, other colors are not planned at the present time. However, protective covers in other colors will be available as accessories.

What memory capacity does WeTab have? Can this be extended?
WeTab has a capacity of 16 GB, WeTab 3g has 32 GB. The memory capacity can also be increased by up to 32 GB (SDHC) via the internal SD card slot. In addition, external memory can be connected via the USB interface (USB sticks, external hard drives) and a NAS can be accessed via wireless. Furthermore, it will be possible to save or synchronize contents on the WeTab Cloud servers. This means users have the advantage of also being able to access their data via other devices.

What standard apps will be pre-installed on the WeTab?
The most important widgets can be found on the bulletin board, but the user can already influence the configuration during setup.

Can I access the complete Google Android Marketplace on the WeTab? Will all Android Market apps run?
Basically, all Android Apps can run on the WeTab, but not all make sense as the WeTab is not a smartphone. We select apps that make sense for the WeTab and work together with secondary AppStore providers.

Can I import apps independent of the WeTab Market without the expert mode?
No

Can Android Apps access the internal mass storage?
Yes

How are Android and Android Apps integrated? Do the apps run “normally” on their own or in a special environment? Will the Android support be provided natively or virtually?
The apps run in a runtime environment. The Android Stack runs incorporated in our Linux.

What Android version does the WeTab system build on?
On version 2.0; an upgrade to 2.2 is planned as the next step.

Will apps that are adapted to the resolution be available?
The WeTab supports the maximum resolution supported by an app in each case.

Can Android Apps access the camera?
Yes

Is it true that, without expert mode, I will only be able to install the Linux programs that the WeTab GmbH has selected and placed in the Market?
All apps will be selected in the Market in the first step and, in a second step the Market will be opened in such a way that unchecked apps can also be accepted.

Does the same apply for Android Apps?
No

Are normal Linux applications also supported?
Numerous standard Linux applications will also be listed in the WeTab Market.

The SDK makes it possible to create widgets, which are then able to call up AIR apps. Do I have to then write this in AIR?
No, developers do not have to write anything in AIR, they have freedom of choice (Java, Air, Flash, Silverlight, Android, C/C++). The SDK builds on the technologies JavaScript/HTML/CSS and Qt/C++/Python.

Can I load the newspaper using W-LAN in the morning, for example, and then read it offline in the train?
Yes, you can do this with no problem at all using the WeMagazine ePublishing Open Platform.

What happens with apps if I keep the WeTab in portrait mode?
There is an API for the location sensor and the app reaction can be set accordingly.

How large is the developer community of the WeTab OS?
The developer community consists of Neofonie and 4tiitoo as well as the developers who are developing the MeeGo, Adobe AIR, Android, Linux, Java, etc. apps. We also have an integrated Wine, so you have to include Microsoft here. That is why we cannot give an exact number for the developers. The developer community that develops especially for the WeTab native apps still has to form.

When will the Software Development Kit (SDK) for WeTab OS be available?
The SDK for native WeTab apps will be available in Quarter IV 2010. However, you can already develop for the WeTab today, for example, using Android or Adobe AIR 2.0.

What video formats are supported by WeTab? 
Thanks to Linux, the WeTab supports the following established video formats: asf, avi, mp4, mov, flv, mpeg-ps/ts, mkv, mxf, ogg, 3gp

Can videos be played in HD quality? 
The WeTab is HD ready and the WeTab 3G supports HD up to 1080p. HD films can also be viewed on a television or beamer via the HDMI output port.

What eBook formats can be used?
In addition to open standards such as epub, pdf, txt, mobipocket and the WeBook premium format, the aim is to support other formats from providers of closed systems on the WeTab. 

What is the WeMagazine ePublishing system? 
The WeMagazine ePublishing Open Platform is a software system that brings an intelligent, interactive and socially networked print title in digital form on to tablets, desktops, smartphones and online. It is a complete package for the production, sale, delivery and use of digital contents for electronic devices and a model for the integration of partners.

Is there a system-wide copy & paste function that can be activated by touch? 
Yes, but not into all runtime environments, because not all of them support copy & paste.

 Can I set more than one user so that, for example, several family members can each have their own personal interface and use their own media and apps?
Yes, the WeTab is multi-user compatible.

How can I go online using the WeTab? 
You can go online with the WeTab either at home or on public hotspots via wireless. With the WeTab 3G you can also go online when out and about via UMTS/HSDPA. Standard SIM cards can be used in the integrated SIM slot.

Does the WeTab support open type functions? 
For contents based on the WeMagazine ePublishing Open Platform such as magazines and newspapers, the technical options of the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) apply. On the basis of the new Flash Player 10 Text Engine it contains and the so-called Text Layout Framework, we are able to support open type fonts as well as other typographic elements.

Can I work with Office documents on the WeTab? 
The most usual Office document formats can be opened and edited on the WeTab via the included Office Suite that comes with the device.

Can I use the WeTab for games that are controlled using a movement sensor (e.g. car racing)?
Yes, the WeTab has an integrated movement sensor that can also be used for games.

Can I watch TV on the WeTab via a dvb-t stick? 
WeTab supports a very wide range of peripheral devices that can be connected via USB and Bluetooth, among others. Mobile television is basically supported by WeTab via a dvb-t stick.

Does the WeTab have an audio output port for headphones?
Yes, for headphones with a normal phone jack.

 Does the WeTab have a Webcam?
Yes, it has an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera which can be used for photos as well as for videos and videotelephony.

Software

What operating system does the WeTab have? 
The WeTab OS is based on the current and high-performance Linux distribution MeeGo. However, the entire user interface has been developed completely new and especially for touch pads.

What software runs on the WeTab? 
In addition to its own WeTab apps, Android, Adobe Air, Adobe Flash, Silverlight, Java, Standard Linux applications and complete Web-based services are also supported. More focus is placed in the overall system on open source components.

Will there be desktop software for the synchronization?
The WeTab synchronizes itself with the WeTab Cloud. This also makes the WeTab the first device where you do not need another computer for synchronization.

Will the system updates be free of charge?
Yes

Will a special WeTab driver database exist and can developers publish their own drivers (for devices that are not automatically supported) there?
Yes, we are checking these drivers and will certify them before we make them available to the public.

Will there be recovery CD or similar for the WeTab OS?
The WeTab synchronizes with the WeTab Cloud in order to save and recover installed apps and settings.

Can external developers create applications for the WeTab? 
Following the market launch, an SDK for WeTab apps will be made publicly available for external developers; it will be designed specially for the WeTab options. Independent of this, developers can develop Android, Adobe Air, Java or Linux applications at any time and these can be used on the WeTab.

Will the WeTab Store also offer free apps?
Yes, a large selection of free apps will be available.

Is there a special framework for multi-touch gestures or other special WeTab functions?
Qt 4.7 and Adobe Air 2.0 support numerous multi-touch functions.

Will there be accessories for the WeTab? 
In addition to a docking station, keyboard, adapter cables, bags and covers, other accessories are also planned.

What will the WeTab cost? 
The WeTab will be available in two models. The WeTab costs 449 euro and the WeTab 3G including GPS and HD costs 569 euro.

When will I be able to buy the WeTab? 
Both WeTab models can already be ordered on Amazon.de and Media Markt. The devices will be delivered within Germany starting from September 2010.

Can I also buy the WeTab in other countries? 
At market launch, the WeTab will initially be available in Germany. Other countries will follow and the dates will be announced at a later date.

Do I have to buy a subscription for a magazine in order to use the WeTab? 
No, the WeTab also works as a fully-fledged tablet computer without subscriptions. However, newspaper and magazine subscriptions are ideal for reading on the WeTab.

Will the WeTab also be delivered together with a publishing house subscription?
Publishing houses can sell the WeTab together with subscriptions. The publishing houses determine the conditions for subsidized prices.

Will my order on Amazon.de still remain valid following the change of name?
Yes, all advance orders remain valid and now apply automatically to the WeTab

Manufacture

Who are the WeTab technology partners? 
Intel and Adobe, for example. Intel contributes the innovative process technology for the WeTab and thus makes it possible to use modern Internet technologies. In cooperation with Adobe, the WeTab will be equipped with both the Adobe® Flash® Player and Adobe AIR®. As such, the WeTab will be one of the first tablets to support these popular runtimes natively.

Where will the WeTab be produced? 
As with other hardware providers, the hardware is produced by a contract manufacturer (OEM/ODM) in Asia. The software is being developed in Germany and with international partners. The backup systems run in Germany and are subject to the strict European data protection guidelines.
