
Play lossless audio in Music on Mac
If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can play and download music encoded using the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC), which makes files smaller while preserving all of the original data in the file. In Apple Music, lossless music is available in two formats:
- Lossless: Up to 24-bit, 48 kHz 
- Hi-Res Lossless: Up to 24-bit, 192 kHz 
Albums and songs available in lossless have the Lossless icon  next to them. If a track is playing in lossless, the icon also appears in the playback controls.

Choose lossless audio quality settings
- Go to the Music app  on your Mac. on your Mac.
- Choose Music > Settings, click Playback, then do any of the following: - Turn on lossless audio: Select the “Lossless audio” checkbox. (You can see the Lossless icon for music whenever it’s playing.) 
- Select lossless audio quality when streaming songs: Choose one of the options from the Streaming pop-up menu. 
- Select lossless audio quality when downloading songs: Choose one of the options from the Download pop-up menu. 
 
Change the lossless audio quality for a song
- Go to the Music app  on your Mac. on your Mac.
- Stream a song from Apple Music. - Note: A song needs to be playing before you can change its audio quality. 
- Click  in the playback controls, then click Audio Quality Settings to change the lossless audio quality settings. in the playback controls, then click Audio Quality Settings to change the lossless audio quality settings.
