Agreed. And if the subref is referring to the parent by name (<ref details="abc" name="def" />) then VE already includes logic to move the main ref contents over to one of the remaining reuses. The problem in this case would simply be to verify that this functionality still works when "details" are present.

Closing this ticket. I think with the details solution this won't be an issue at all, because every sub-ref should share the main refs content as it is currently working for normal re-uses. And even if there's still an issue it would be a different one than what was described here.

We realized, that re-uses of sub-refrences are not counted on the main reference. This needs to be fixed. If a sub-ref of a main ref is re-used, then the main ref has more "usages".
