Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):
- https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/rMW7fa5111f4345cdcfe760aaaabfff9ae33dc86239 says Indonesian is the fallback language
- Currently it's not recognizing the Indonesian language's namespace terms
- Example in the sandbox https://mad.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikip%C3%A8%E1%B8%8Dia:Bak_beddhi&oldid=36297 screenshot below
What happens?:
If the Indonesian is the fallback language, as it should be, all the namespace terms in Indonesian should be recognized by the system, such as Templat, Kategori, Berkas, etc.
Madurese, as well as other local languages in Indonesia, often translate and import templates, categories, and articles from Indonesian language, and it's often frustrating to find some templates and modules not working because of the Indonesian terms above were not recognized. The new contributors are often clueless to this problem, and grew frustrated at the lack of solution.
I happen to gave some training to their community and found out about this problem. Upon searching, I found that Indonesian should have already been a fallback language. I'm not sure why the problem exist/persist.
What should have happened instead?:
The Madurese community clearly asked for Indonesian language as the fallback language, and so it should be. If there's something else that need to be done, please do inform. Thanks.
