National Marine Equipment Pool
The largest centralised marine scientific equipment pool in Europe with a diverse range of instruments for sampling from sea surface to deep ocean.
Advances in ocean science depend on measurements in the ocean. Satellite observations only provide data for the surface layer of the ocean. To penetrate beyond the surface, we still need in-situ physical measurements from a range of platforms including: research ships, ocean observatories, moorings, and autonomous underwater and surface vehicles. The NOC provides these facilities to the whole UK marine research community through the National Marine Equipment Pool (NMEP). While the ships are the most obvious of these, the NMEP is especially important in providing a full suite of equipment for oceanographic research.

The ability to explore remote and challenging areas at sea is becoming increasingly important for us to understand the complex nature of our oceans in order to predict future change.
Our science produces data. Our facilities store these data and make them available to the marine science community.
A national resource for the UK marine and earth science community.
Is the only collection consisting solely of deep-sea and open ocean invertebrates in the UK and provides vital insight into the species that live at extreme ocean depths.
Project lifecycle services from engineering design, deployment and recovery, through to data management and analysis support.
A range of laboratories, workshops and testing facilities available to the marine science community and external organisations.
We offer bespoke, tailor-made packages to cater to the requirements of your event at our unique waterside building.
