Transclusion caveat

When you transclude a page (that is, automate the display of a page's content on another page), all its tags (like {{TOCRight}}) go with it, which will be implemented on the host page. Just add the following code if you want to add a right-aligned TOC to a page, but do not want it to be displayed on "derivative" pages:

<noinclude> {{TOCright}} </noinclude>

For a more detailed explanation, see Help:Wiki markup#Templates and transcluding pages.

To add this auto-updating template to your user page, use {{totd}}

(I have relocated these very precious kindnesses from others to the top of my talkpage, so they will never be lost or forgotten. I am very grateful for each one.)

For all the time and effort you have put in — across thousands of edits — to markedly improve numerous articles related to Christianity all these years. The magnitude of the positive impact you have had with regard to Wikipedia's coverage of academic topics related to Christianity is unprecedented; I cannot think of any other editor who has worked so rigorously and improved those topics to the extent that you have. Started a new article, very unusual thing happened

[edit]
Stations of the Cross at the Cloisters on the Platte by Lundeen Sculpture. Pretty impressive, I think it's 4-5 meters high. It's station 13, but I bet you already knew that.

The name George Lundeen popped up at the Teahouse, and I got interested. I finished it, and after sometime, a new arrival popped up at the talkpage saying hello, I work for him, thanks for working on this article! Thinking one can always ask, I say how about giving us some pictures, here's how you can do that? My jaw drops when 2 hours later she replies SURE!!

So I put them on Commons (some were there already, and some of those are being purged per rulez) and have been spreading them on WP quite a bit, learning about Casey at the Bat and Stations of the Cross in the process. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello, can I add recent photos that needs to be updated --Edited by 234 (talk) 06:52, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Edited by 234 Depends on what you mean. The basic assumption is that any random picture you find online is under copyright and can't be used on Wikipedia. If, say, you think the Jennifer Aniston article should have a newer leadimage, you can't just pick one you like from her instagram or wherever.
So, can you give an example of what you want to do? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:10, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Engraverman (15:37, 30 April 2025)

[edit]

Hello Jenhawk777, I have created a User Account so that I could start a Wikipedia page about myself. I want to write an introductory article about myself and then carry on with my work history, my publishing history and articles about some of my projects. Have I started this project in the correct way? --Engraverman (talk) 15:37, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Only if there is sufficient secondary material published about you to use as a references. You cannot use yourself as a source. You are a primary source, and WP does not reference primary sources. That would require our interpretation, and that's against WP:OR. Jenhawk777 (talk) 15:42, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about your FA.

[edit]

It seems this topic chokes our system somehow, and I don't know what to do about it. If there were three you against the inquisitors, you might have a chance. Or if the FA focused on one section at a time until that was done, and then moved on. Hope you're ok. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:36, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I hope it is OK to put my two pennies in here.

The Christianity Barnstar
For your tireless efforts improving the History of Christianity article Seltaeb Eht (talk) 19:55, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you all so much. Your kindness brought tears to my eyes. I can be tough when people are mean and as soon as someone is kind I lose it! Don't stop being kind though! This topic does choke this particular system which is statistically populated with people with strong feelings against Christianity. UC is the only person in all the reviews this article has had over the last two years who has ever accused me of being biased toward Christianity. UC never checked the sources I cited. They never responded to me checking theirs. But none of that mattered. Once you get an oppose, if you argue you're in the wrong for arguing, and if you don't argue and just accept it, you are still screwed. The oppose - not its reasons or its validity - are all that matters. It is hard to think that this method of selection doesn't need revising, but I don't know into what or how. I am finally giving up on this one. It will never get through FA no matter what I do simply because there are so many details, there is no end of sources for disagreement. It's impossible to please everyone. I accept that now. I also thank you for your kindnesses. It helps. Jenhawk777 (talk) 20:17, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Abhisennin (08:17, 3 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I'm looking to request an article for a senior civil servant in Indian law enforcement. All of the material has been collated however there is a conflict of interest. Could you guide me on the approach to submission and way forward.

This would be a article for an accomplished senior Indian Police Services Officer with multiple awards, a tedx speaker who has held key responsibilities in the state. --Abhisennin (talk) 08:17, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can write a biography of a live person Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons but you need to have secondary sources to do so. News articles qualify, but it must be a published source that is not you. You may not use yourself or them as a source. You are both primary sources, and that would require what is called WP:OR original research, and that is not allowed on Wikipedia.
Read this page: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest and disclose what your relationship with this person is and if there is any conflict of interest. Some important points: Editors with a COI, including paid editors, are expected to disclose it ...COI editors are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly, and can propose changes on article talk pages instead.
If you don't follow these, eventually someone will notice and revert (remove) all your work, and you will have wasted all your time and effort. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:45, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Scott Slowik on Ruth Buzzi (18:19, 4 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello. Ruth Buzzi recently passed and I’d like to edit her filmography (TV show section) to include the fact she was panelist on Hollywood Squares in 1968 (4 times but that is irrelevant). I could not figure out how to insert that information between her other television appearances.. mainly “That Girl” and “The Carol Burnett Show”. Thank you if you can help. --Scott Slowik (talk) 18:19, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Scott Slowik and welcome to Wikipedia. I am posting a welcome with some links on your talk page. Please do a quick read of those links. There is a lot to learn here, so taking the time to do that is important to your success and enjoyment - and the acceptance of your work. You can start here: Help:Editing. You must have secondary sources - printed sources - that are not you. You are a primary source and therefore are not a valid WP reference. You would have to interpret what you say yourself and its accuracy cannot be verified by a reader who doesn't know you. That's anathema here. Jenhawk777 (talk) 19:17, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RabbiEMF (02:08, 6 May 2025)

[edit]

Hi, how do I correct an error in this article on the Calvary statue on the Charles Bridge in Prague. It mentions a plaque placed near the statue at the request of group of North American rabbis. I was one of those rabbis present along with a representative from the Cardinal and the mayor of Prague and the year was not, as stated, 2009. It was in 2000. --RabbiEMF (talk) 02:09, 6 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. I have posted a welcome with a few links in it that should be read before attempting editing here. In answer to your question, you must have secondary sources. You cannot use yourself as a source - unless someone interviewed you and printed it in a newspaper or magazine or some such thing, you are not a viable WP source. You are a primary source, and primary sources cannot be used because you would have to interpret them yourself WP:OR and they would not be verifiable WP:verifiablity for the reader. Question from PsaiKi S (10:54, 8 May 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I found out that the name of my favorite singer on Wiki page is wrong, so I registered on Wiki and changed his name. Then a few days later, another user cancelled my change saying that it was because the Wikipedia guideline said the name of Hong Kong person should be a hyphenated style. As a Hong Konger, based on Hong Kong ID Card and Passport, the names on Hong Kong legal documents are not hyphenated. The actual case is Eason Chan. His current name showed on wiki page is Eason Chan Yick-shun, but according to Hong Kong legal documents such as passport and ID cards, it should be Eason Chan Yick Shun. And the user who cancelled my edit told me to follow this page "WP:ZHNAME". Am i get any mistake in my editing? --PsaiKi S (talk) 10:54, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You have to cite the secondary source you used to make that change or another editor will revert you every time. I have now posted a welcome to your talk page with links that will answer your questions here. Referencing is a requirement. Use good quality secondary sources. If you do that and still get reverted, post on the talk page and ask them to provide references and see if you can work it out. Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:16, 8 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jenhawk! I think I like it! I found some corrections I would like to make at the German translation. Do I just correct and if I am mistaken the crowd will re- correct? Or I am sure of something wrong. 😀 --Bushigongzuomayi (talk) 16:55, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello back at ya' Bushigongzuomayi!! You must - must - have a good quality secondary source that verifies anything you add to Wikipedia. Otherwise the "crowd" will revert - that's delete - what you've added. Dictionaries can be a source for translation. Good luck and happy editing! Jenhawk777 (talk) 18:31, 19 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
