Hi JArthur1984, we previously communicated on another page regarding Tencent. Three weeks ago, I posted the above Conflict of Interest edit request here but haven't been able to reach any editors yet (understandably, it was the holiday season!). I was wondering if this is something you could assist with as well? We've made an effort to use third-party sources where possible. TencentCommsYeran (talk) 06:30, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Supplementary information about Tencent Cloud

[edit]

Hi Editors,

(I'm reposting this request as advised in Teahouse as we mistakenly posted this as a "helpme" request, instead of a "COI edit" request.)

This is Yeran from the Tencent Comms team, I hope this message finds you well.

With respect to Wikipedia’s guidelines, I won’t be making any direct edits to the article. Instead, we are here to provide you with various sources of information, including those from the Tencent Cloud official website, as well as news articles or reports from independent media organizations. We would be grateful if you could review our suggestions in the below, and include them if you consider the information supplied an improvement to the existing article.

Introduction of Tencent Cloud

  • Specific text to add: Tencent Cloud's headquarters: Tencent Cloud is headquartered at Tencent Binhai Building, No.33, Haitian Second Road, Nanshan District of Shenzhen.
  • Reason for the change: This information is missed and would inform readers of Tencent Cloud's business location.
  • References supporting change: https://www.tencent.com/en-us/about.html#about-con-1

Products & services

Customer and partner demographics

Data center regions / Availability zones

  • Specific text to be add: Tencent Cloud International operates 9 technical support centers, located in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the United States, and Germany.
  • Reason for the change: Same as above.
  • References supporting change: https://www.tencent.com/en-us/articles/2201930.html

TencentCommsYeran (talk) 03:52, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @TencentCommsYeran
Introduction - Is Tencent Cloud software produced by Tencent or a subsidiary? If Tencent Cloud is its own company, we may be better off using a company infobox and listing key people there (the software infobox doesn't allow that... and it looks a bit weird saying all operating systems given that it's a cloud platform, don't you think?).
Services - I've mentioned you offer over 400 cloud services and touched on the key ones. We can add some others in, but your original list was a bit too long.
Customer base - The scmp article is paywalled. I will look further into the others.
DCregions/AZs - Is "Tencent Cloud International" a separate entity?
Thanks, OXYLYPSE (talk) 09:45, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @OXYLYPSE for the edits and questions! Here is more information that may supplement the request:
Introduction: Tencent Cloud is Tencent’s cloud services brand and a business unit under Tencent. Reference:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/tencent-cloud/; https://www.reuters.com/article/technology/chinas-tencent-cloud-to-open-datacentre-in-bahrain-idUSKCN2AT27D/;
We agreed to remove the operating systems part.
Customer base: Here are some alternative references for the more than 10,000 business customers globally stat. DCregions/AZs: Tencent Cloud is registered under the name of Tencent Cloud International in certain markets such as Singapore. That said, we agreed to simplify it to the brand name "Tencent Cloud" for consistency to avoid confusion. Reference: https://www.bizfile.gov.sg/buy-info/entity-details/202109468C

Hi @TencentCommsYeran I've reviewed your input around AZs and noticed that your original text missed two locations in the list of support centers.

Addition of a Notable Customers section

[edit]

Hi Wiki editors,

This is Yeran from Tencent Comms team. I'm back with another suggestion to add a "Notable Customers" section (right after Services) to highlight three case studies from distinct sectors, and see if you agree that these will be of interest to Wikipedia readers. Thank you in advance!

GoTo

  • Specific text to be add: GoTo, an Indonesian technology company, has partnered with Tencent to enhance its cloud infrastructure and digital services. Under the partnership, Tencent Cloud provides a suite of cloud solutions and Platform as a Service (PaaS) offerings tailored to strengthen GoTo's enterprise and consumer-focused services.
  • Reason for the change: This is one of the most notable case studies as GoTo is the largest digital ecosystem in the country.
  • References supporting change: https://fintechnews.sg/101603/indonesia/goto-tencent-cloud-infrastructure/
Not done This is a cut and paste from a press release. It doesn't show how the info is notable. STEMinfo (talk) 23:25, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Blue Insurance

Not done Having only an inline external link doesn't make Blue Insurance notable. STEMinfo (talk) 23:25, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Palworld

  • Specific text to be add: Tencent Cloud is the official server provider for Palworld, developed by Pocketpair, optimizing the multiplayer experience globally with its Lighthouse service, a user-friendly cloud solution for lightweight applications. With Tencent Cloud Lighthouse, players can set up dedicated servers in three seconds, eliminating the need for complex configurations and simplifying the gaming setup process. To further improve performance, server locations across key regions, including Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the United States, and other parts of Asia-Pacific will be set up. This expansion minimizes latency, delivering a lag-free and seamless gameplay experience for users worldwide.
  • Reason for the change: A reliable and fast cloud service is essential for a good multiplayer gaming experience. This may serve as a point of reference for game developers.

Done this one is OK, but added to history rather than starting a notable clients section. STEMinfo (talk) 23:25, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @STEMinfo! This is very much appreciated. You might have noticed that the page is now marked as "promotional", would you be interested in reviewing the overall tone and wording used on the page to ensure it sounds more neutral to the community?

Chinese Entity Name Correction

[edit]

Hi editors, this is Yeran from Tencent's communications team. We'd like to correct the Chinese equivalent names on the page:

@TencentCommsYeran you can go ahead and make changes on the article just for this request. I don't see an issue correcting the name. My own searches also shows the same. – robertsky (talk) 08:52, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Koyk116 I wonder if you'd be interested to review this request as well? TencentCommsYeran (talk) 04:23, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TencentCommsYeran Your list looks generally okay. The only comment from me is that it seems rather biased. I will review the events based on my research and strike a balance there. Koyk116 (talk) 08:00, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Update of information

[edit]

Enhance the "Services" section

[edit]

Hi editors,

This is Yeran from Tencent comms. I would like to make a suggestion to list out the key services that Tencent Cloud offers, alongside some real-life cases to demonstrate in laymen terms how these translate into real-life impact. I'm conscious of the need for neutrality so we have tried to stick to how media reported them, and base them on third-party references where possible.

I would appreciate your time to review the below in advance.

Thank you!

----

Media services

[edit]

Tencent Cloud offers Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and application Platform-as-a Service (aPaaaS) cloud streaming services, among other media services to its clients. (Source: https://www.tencentcloud.com/products/media)

Notable clients include KUPU, an Indonesian mobile recruitment platform by Dalligent Solutions that built a “virtual interviewer” that allows for structured and standardized answers to questions, powered by Tencent Cloud’s AI and media technologies, including video-on-demand and transcoding to facilitate two-way video interview recording to facilitate the hiring process. (Source: https://www.techinasia.com/indonesiabased-kupu-banks-6m-expand-aipowered-jobs-platform-locally)

Real-time communications (RTC)

[edit]

Tencent RTC offers multi-person audio/video calls and low latency interactive live streaming for seamless and efficient communication. (Source: https://trtc.io/why-tencent-rtc)

Notable clients include the Singapore-based live streaming platform BeLive. In 2022, BeLive leveraged RTC and cloud streaming services to enhance its own livestreaming platform, LORA, resulting in improved video quality, low-latency and high-defintion video capabilities for better video engagements. (Source: https://www.tencentcloud.com/customers/detail/2976, https://itwire.com/it-industry-news/strategy/tencent-cloud-joins-forces-with-belive-technology-to-%E2%80%98elevate-livestreaming-standard%E2%80%99-in-southeast-asia-and-beyond.html)

In December 2024, Tencent Cloud and BeLive expanded their partnership to now include a multilingual, AI-enabled digital human offering. (Source: https://uptech-media.com/tencent-cloud-belive-technology-to-offer-digital-human-solutions-for-personalised-interactions-in-expanded-partnership/)

In Japan, in 2024, Pokekara, a leading karaoke app developed by M&E Time Entertainment, has enhanced its platform by implementing Tencent RTC. This enabled the app to support over a million viewers watching low-latency live streams simultaneously, as well as implementing an online KTV, leading to reduced operational costs. (Source: https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/707605)

Digital human

[edit]

"Digital human" is a platform that enables multi-modal human-computer interaction to create digital avatars, with the aim to improve communication efficiency and services of enterprises. (Source: https://www.tencentcloud.com/products/ivh; https://www.channelnewsasia.com/east-asia/digital-human-tencent-ai-debate-4642366)

In 2024, Tencent Cloud collaborated with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism to develop Khalifa, the city’s first generative-AI-powered digital ambassador to promote travelling to the UAE. (Source: https://www.cio.com/article/3517751/tencents-ai-and-cloud-to-accelerate-the-middle-easts-tech-led-transformation.html)

TencentCommsYeran (talk) 07:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My opinion is that these customer cases are promotional on its own. You will have to limit it to factual, descriptive details only. Koyk116 (talk) 07:25, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Remove client and company names.
  • Remove dated entries that aren't major milestones in the company's development.
  • Condense the descriptions and make them more generic. It actually doesn't serve you well to have such specific examples.
  • Remove descriptors like "notable", "seamless", "efficient", "leading" (anyway, according to whom?), "enhanced", "enabled", "support over a million". These are not neutral, they're all strong positives. I could continue the list but there are too many. (Some would be okay used in a different context, but here they're all singing praises.)
  • Reword this: "...expanded their partnership to now include a multilingual, AI-enabled digital human offering." "Expanded", "now", "offering" are promotional tags.
  • Remove "...leading to reduced operational costs." Who cares?
  • Delete "...with the aim to improve communication efficiency and services of enterprises." We don't need to know your company goals.
  • "...to develop an Khalifa, the city’s first generative-AI-assistedpowered digital ambassador to promote travelling tool for to the UAE."
This is just a quick pass, noting the things that jumped out at me. I also took a gander at the rest of the article and it also reeks of self-promotion. (Note especially bullet #2. This isn't the place to list every change the company has ever made. Just hit the big ones, and keep in mind it's all relative. If someone is really interested, there should be a page on the company website that lists all the history. Wikipedia should be only a general overview.)
Hope this helps. Ghost writer's cat (talk) 04:36, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghost writer's cat and @Koyk116, I agree. They do look quite promotional and definitely need a major reword before we can accept this.
Furthermore, many of the sources are not secondary or reliable. ITwire seems like a WP:PRSOURCE and others (like techinasia) do not appear to be well established and probably is an example of WP:CHURNALISM. @TencentCommsYeran I'm closing the tag as  Not done as the majority of the proposed edits does not appear to be following our policies. Justiyaya 03:24, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ghost writer's cat @Justiyaya @Koyk116 Thank you for your detailed feedback. It's our goal to align with Wikipedia's guideline so we will review our materials once again. If any of you can help us edit the overall page's tone, it would be much appreciated!
TencentCommsYeran (talk) 08:46, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would be afraid to edit that page—it would be a drastic overhaul, which might not be appreciated. It's not like I could do a draft and have you approve it first. The work would be for naught if it were reverted. Better to have a neutral friend do it outside of Wikipedia and then you both can discuss. Ghost writer's cat (talk) 22:32, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TencentCommsYeran
I would not recommend asking a friend. I can't see how the friend could be neutral if they have a relationship with you, especially if you give them some sort of incentive to do so. I would suggest going for smaller changes that are well supported by reliable sources or correcting errors if you do wish to continue. Echoing Ghost writer's cat, I think drastic changes, like the quantity that you proposed above, would be difficult to source and write clearly. It would also be quite strenuous for the reviewer. Smaller changes (like a paragraph) adding to the content worded neutrally or correcting errors in the article would be appreciated.
Reviewing some of our policies in sourcing and wording might prove helpful. Happy editing! Justiyaya 11:00, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!
