ModalAI’s new FPV drone navigates indoor areas with ease

If flying drones indoors sounds like a recipe for disaster, ModalAI’s new Stinger Vision FPV is here to change your mind. The new Stinger Vision FPV is a compact, rugged, and brainy first-person-view drone that’s designed to fly safely and autonomously in tight spaces like warehouses, tunnels, or even GPS-denied environments.

Built with US-made components and compliant with NDAA regulations, this sleek little flyer is engineered with government agencies, first responders, and drone developers in mind.

“Our team engineered Stinger Vision to dramatically reduce training time while delivering advanced autonomy and long-range video streaming in a rugged, ultra-compact package,” says Chad Sweet, CEO of ModalAI.

What sets this new FPV drone apart? Onboard intelligence. Stinger Vision comes loaded with ModalAI’s new MVX system for long-range, low-latency HD video streaming and a suite of sensors including dual computer vision cameras, a low-light electro-optical (EO) sensor, and a downward-facing thermal camera. All of this allows it to fly on “easy mode,” thanks to smart features like backtrack mode, which lets the drone automatically retrace its steps if the video feed drops out.

Operators can toggle between different camera views — EO, thermal, or downward — giving them critical situational awareness in tight, dark, or complex spaces. And with encrypted dual-band HD streaming, pilots can count on secure connections when it matters most.

While the Stinger Vision is built for missions, it’s also a full-on development platform. At its core is the VOXL 2 Mini, ModalAI’s tiniest yet most powerful computing platform, packed with an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, and Qualcomm’s QRB5165 chip. That means developers can use the drone as a reference design to prototype sensors, write custom software, and test new mission profiles using ModalAI’s open VOXL SDK.

“Whether you’re building next-gen drone capabilities or need an NDAA-compliant FPV solution today, Stinger Vision offers a scalable, modular foundation,” adds Sweet.

Key specs of ModalAI’s new FPV drone:

  • Weighs 575g and flies for over 12 minutes
  • Autonomous flight with Multi-Cam Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO)
  • Built-in backtrack for signal-loss recovery
  • Multiple FPV views including thermal and low-light
  • NDAA-compliant and Blue UAS Framework-ready

The Stinger Vision FPV is available to buy directly through ModalAI’s website, at a base price of $3,400.
