  You are goingto choose your own topic Year 13 is a personal investigation into a theme, issue, idea or photographic problem that you are interested in. It is a further unit of practical, visual photographic work this time supported by an essay(approximately 1-3000 words). The study is entirely self generated, though you will be asked to complete visual and written tasks to deadlines, to support the progress of work.

  Your first taskis to decide what you want your topic to be. It can be fairly broad to begin with. You should create a nicely presented visual mood board and a spider diagram. Look at exemplars for inspiration and ideas. Consider potential ideas for a study.

  ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY INHISTORIC BUILDINGS. What can a building say about the past? STORY TELLING THROUGH THE PHOTOGRAPHIC IMAGE. Does a picture actually tell a thousand words? PHOTOGRAPHY AS AN ART FORM Investigating the continuity of themes and conventions of art into photography PORTRAITURE IN PHOTOGRAPHY Is the portrait a collaborative result between photographer and subject? PAINTING AND PHOTOGRAPHY Investigating photographic recreations of classical paintings. SHOCK TACTICS The documentary work of Nan Goldin and Larry Rivers PHOTOGRAPHY AND CINEMATOGRAPHY The use of cinematic lighting techniques in photography VOYERISM IN PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILM The pleasure principle of ‘looking’ in film and photography THE USE OF MIXED MEDIA IN PHOTOGRAPHY An exploration of alternative processes and techniques

  The personal studyshould provide evidence of your most advanced work so far, both technically and conceptually. You will be learning to work in a completely self directed way, though will continue with support through tutorials, workshops and class discussions. Be imaginative, original and creative with the choice of topic. Select a subject that you can research and will be possible to produce an extended investigation into. Think where you may find research material and artists supporting it. You will need to link the topic to artists/photographers/film makers. You will be producing your own creative photographic work in response to these and be analysing both. Consider whether you will be able to produce an extended series of fascinating visual work alongside the written research.

Create an album of ideas for your Personal Study. This is going to be extremely useful for helping you with creative ideas and finding original, relevant artists for your chosen topic.

  This week…… -Create aPinterest Album linking to your ideas and begin to pin imagery -Find a photographer that links to your chosen topic and take at least 36 Exp shoot inspired by their work. Make sure you show technical skill in this shoot (jot down settings and planning). Make sure you have this on the computer for next week! Deadline: Monday 26th June
