This chapter introduces the basics of 2D animation including the equipment needed for an animation studio such as animation paper, a peg bar, light box, x-sheets, and pencils. It discusses frames per second for animation and how animation works by playing a series of drawings in sequence. It also covers techniques for animating including key-to-key animation, animating straight ahead, and flipping, flicking and rolling drawings. The chapter concludes by explaining how to use a line tester to review animation and provides an overview of exercises on ball bouncing and relating 2D animation to 3D animation.
