• Last week – Defining Functions (Lesson 1)
• This week – Evaluating Functions (Lesson 2)
TODAY!!!! January 21st – Semester 1 Closes
Housekeeping
• Formatives – 20% of overall grade
–IXL skills
–Journal Activities
–Lesson Practice Work
–Lesson quizzes
–etc
• Summatives – 80% of overall grade
–These are the “tests” at the end of the unit
Grades
Grade Scale
Note: All grades from the first
semester will be converted to the
equivalent letter grade.
Unit 1: Lesson 2
Evaluating Functions
Evaluating a function is similar to evaluating an expression
To evaluate a function, replace the variable with a given number.
Important Rules to remember:
Exponents – Squaring a negative
Adding and Subtracting Integers
Order of Operations
Use the following function rule to find f(4).
f(x) = −𝑥 + −2 − 𝑥 ÷ 𝑥
Use the following function rule to find f(3).
f(x) = 9 ÷ 𝑥2
+ 2 − 2𝑥
Use the following function rule to find f(-5).
f(x) = 𝑥 + 3 3
Use the following function rule to find g(7).
g(x) = 23 − 𝑥
