WHAT IS GLANDS AND
WHAT IS HORMONE?
glands/ is important body organs
that’s responsible for produce or
secret hormones.
There are many glands in our body,
look to the picture…
Glands are stimulated by:
1. Hormonal stimulation
2. Neural stimulation
3. Homoral stimulation
WHAT IS HORMONE?
Hormone/ is a chemical substance that produced of released from
glands
Have a role in maintenance of body homeostasis.
Affect body by:
1. Synthesis of proteins
2. Activation or inactivate body enzyme
3. Stimulate mitosis
4. Change permeability or electrical state
PINEAL GLAND
Produce melatonin hormone that’s regulate sleep-wake cycle
THYROID GLAND
It produce and secret 3 hormones :
T3 , T4 / that’s regulates metabolism
Calcitonin hormone/ released when Ca
level high, its work is to decrease Ca level in
blood by add Ca to bone
PARATHYROID GLAND
Release PTH (parathyroid hormone) when Ca level in
blood is low
The hormone increase bone break down to
increase serum Ca
And its work in kidney by increase Ca retention
ADRENAL GLAND:
It has to main glands:
Adrenal cortex/ the outer layer of adrenal gland
Adrenal medulla/ the inner layer of adrenal gland
ADRENAL CORTEX
Mineralocorticoids hormones / regulate electrolyte in the body
Glucocorticoids/ produce glucose by break down of protein and lipids
Produce some androgens (testosterone) and some
(estrogen)
ADRENAL MEDULLA
Produce hormones:
Epinephrine (adrenalin)
Nor-epinephrine
Both hormones work in fight or flight
response (sympathetic nervous system)
THYMUS GLAND
PANCREASES:
Has too many functions, but at this moment we well take a
endocrine function of it
There are specialize cells in pancerase :
TESTES
Produce androgens (testosterone)
OVARY (ESTROGENS(
OVARY ( PROGESTERONE(
Its maintain appropriate conditions to ovulation and pregnancy
PITUITARY GLAND
Its work under the influence of hypothalamus
It has a responsible for controlling many glands in the body by releasing
hormones:
Its divided into two regions:
Anterior pituitary gland
Posterior pituitary gland
ANTERIOR PITUITARY GLAND
Somatotropic hormone STH or GH/ growth of skeletal muscles and long bone .
Gonadotropic hormone/
FSH Follicular stimulating hormone and LH luteinizing
hormone/spermatogenesis and maturation of ovaries.
Lactogenic hormone LTH or Prolactin hormone PRL/ stimulate and
maintain production of milk.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone ACTH/ regulate adrenal cortex.
Thyroid stimulation hormone TSH/ regulate thyroid gland
POSTERIOR PITUITARY GLAND
Oxytocin/ trigger utrine muscle and breast
ADH anti-diuretic hormone/ prevent water loss by increase water up
take in kidney.
HYPOTHALAMUS:
Is a part of brain, has many functions in the body
Pituitary gland is hanged from it
It has deep relation to pituitary gland
Hypothalamus indirectly controls many glands of the
body by stimulating pituitary gland or inhibition of it .
Hypothalamuses
Pituitary gland
Target gland or
organs
