Pastoral society and transnational refugees: population movements in Somaliland and eastern Ethiopia 1988 - 2000

This paper looks at the refugee outflows and repatriation movements in the Horn of Africa and particularly between northern Somalia and eastern Ethiopia. It also looks at the main features of Somali society, given that Somalis are a rather homogeneous ethnic group from a cultural-linguistic point of view, stretching across at least four countries in the Horn of Africa: Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and Djibouti.
