EDWARDIAN LACE RECEPTION GOWN TRAINED, 1905, LABEL WHITTY This is an attractive Edwardian off white reception lace gown, one piece in construction, dating from 1905. A gown that a mid to upper class dress that a woman would wear. Label reads: WHITTY, 206 W. 52D ST. The bodice is decorated with machine lace and lace appliques on front and back and as well as continuing down the skirt. Lace appliques are backed and enhanced with a very fine light yellow silk tulle or gauze to set it off nicely. The bodice has extensive hook and eyes back closure fastening into a tight fitting bodice with its numerous fabric covered metal stays. The bodice is lined with white silk. Lovely light yellow silk gauze fabric with dangling beaded tassels hanging from sleeves, and front and back of bodice. The skirt closes by hooks and loops at the back with fullness for a nice fall. The skirt is fully lined with white silk. CONDITION The gown is in very good condition. The white silk lining fabric in bodice and skirt have a many small shattered splits scattered about. Slight very light underarm discoloration on inside lining only. Yellow gauze tulle is rough and shredding is spots. No stains or repairs. Many hook and eyes on bodice as well as skirt are loose.
