I made this black silk jacket using a vintage Japanese kimono which I remade into a beautifully draping silk duster. The jacket is loose fitting, unlined and mid thigh length, flattering for every body type. The kimono silk jacket features the original beautiful Japanese stylized trees that were dyed by the kimono artist, but now in a very wearable and accessible form. The jacket is trimmed with black braid. Light padding at the shoulders enhances the drape. The jacket has bell sleeves and closes with a braided black "frog". Dress it up or down over pants, dress or skirt. Suitable for special occasions like Mother of the Bride. No one else will ever have a jacket like this one. Made and kept in a smoke free environment. This antique surcoat would have been worn by a wealthy Chinese nobleman toward the later years of the Qing Dynasty... It is all silk and hand embroidered with displays of flowers and creatures using both satin stitch and Peking knots aka forbidden stitch... The robe is all silk fabric with satin weave...i.e. traditional Han style... When framing Chinese textiles....do not allow your framer to glue the textile to any kind of backing board... Instead have the textile basted (sewn) to a piece of complimentary background fabric...and then have that fabric glued to the board...this will insure that the embroidery can be easily and safely removed from the frame. This listing is for a vintage Japanese wedding kimono (uchikake). An uchikake is draped over top of a kakeshita kimono, left open without an obi, and has a padded at the hem as it was once meant to trail across the floor behind the bride. This kimono features a cream silk background with golden tatewaku (rising steam) pattern that looks like flowing, vertical waves. This sets the stage for dozens of rounded cranes woven in red, gold, and silver. Look closely to see the pine branches were subtly woven between waves. As with many light-colored kimono there are a few very small, very light blemishes - see last photo - but nothing that distracts from the incredible artistry.
