20th Century Japanese Fishing Basket

Our Staff Pick of the Day is Hirasawa Noboru's (b. 1945) "Perpetual Movement." Hirasawa was first inspired to study bamboo craft as a young man after seeing a fish trap made of bamboo. As an avid fisherman, he wanted to learn to make his own baskets. In 2006 he retired his teaching position to become a full-time professional bamboo artist.
