Assessment should be used as part of a cycle which informs the teacher of what was successfully taught and which concepts should be retaught or reinforced. Ample learning opportunities should be provided for students to practice their mastery of the learning objectives. Afterwards, student learning should be assessed in a variety of ways, and the data should be used to establish future learning goals and expectations.
