The Limbu script (Sirjunga script) was created by Limbu King Sirijunga Hang in the late 9th century, but it was forgotten over time. In the 18th century, Limbu scholar Te-ongsi Sirijunga sing Thebe brought it back because it had been banned in Limbuwan by Ranas and Sikkim by Bhutias. The Limbu language is one of the few Sino-Tibetan languages of the Central Himalayas to have their own scripts.
